"We don't have any specifics," says Sega.

Phantasy Star Online 2 will miss its scheduled early 2013 PC release in North America and Europe, Sega has confirmed.

“Originally slated for an early 2013 launch, Sega can officially confirm that [Phantasy Star Online 2] has been delayed,” a Sega spokesperson told Polygon. “We don’t have any specifics but will update everyone as soon as there are more details to share.”

The MMORPG was announced for a western release in July last year.

In Japan, a PS Vita version was released last month. An overseas release for the handheld edition has not been announced.

    hope its not so long

  • jujubee88

Please! Please! Please! Announce a VITA localization date.

    • The Black Rabbit

      no i want pc English!

  • Sae-Won Yoon

    oh COME ON!!! I was looking forward to this one! ;_;

  • No surprise here. Back to the JP servers….forever

  • The Black Rabbit

  • Bloodios

Don’t you dare forget about the Vita version, SEGA America…

  • What a joke, feeling 100% justified in my decision to stay on the JP servers, they’re going to be over a year behind again and it will inevitbly fail first and be closed years before having a fraction of the content too

    • I’m hoping the delays means that when the game does launch in the west, they won’t be very far behind the Japanese version.

  • MrKappa

But of course… really now, what has Sega done lately? Is this all leading up to them putting out release after release?

  • Solomon_Kano

It’s delayed? The hell have they been doing that’d delay it? *sigh*

I hope (in vain) that this delay sees the Vita version localized as well.

  • LordKaiser

I hope they release it in Summer at least… Please Sega don’t let it become another WKC2. Don’t be another D3P ! I need a new online RPG to move into.

    • The Black Rabbit

      Dude…your making me cry!

    • WKC was one of the most disappointing games. I personally think they can keep the sequel. I would love PSO2 to come over here though. I bet that game will be great.

      • The Black Rabbit

Really?..;/ i enjoyed wkc…the battle system needed work though.

        • Budgiecat

yeah maybe if they had made it play like the original 2006 E3 trailer then it would have been good….

          • The Black Rabbit

I never saw the 06 gameplay was it amazing?

        • I love it too just became a chore keeping up with all my friends gr levels

          • 真紅太刀 (ShinkuTachi)

Yeah, you really have to be into MMOs to be into a game like WKC.

            • LordKaiser

Yup that’s why many in WKC2 population are moving to FFXIV ARR

              • 真紅太刀 (ShinkuTachi)

I hope you will be joining me on FFXIV man ^_^

Btw Kaiser, we’ve never exchanged PSNs. I’m Pyrofrost

      • LordKaiser

I think it was Japan Studio who ruined it somehow.

    • 真紅太刀 (ShinkuTachi)

I don’t believe you have anything to worry about, Sega and Level 5 are a bit different. Sega actually self-publishes all of their localizations.

  • Elvick

Well, that’s not surprising. We’ve heard nothing from it since it’s announcement, unless I missed something.

Bring the dern Vita version too. Sheesh.

  • And people wonder why I played the JP version for as long as I did, lol.

    • Kobracon

What ship and block? I hear alot of english players are in Ship 2, block 20. I’m about to start a character. IGN?

      • Oh, I don’t play any more. I was on Ship 2 and I STARTED on block 20, but my god… That quickly turned into a place full of guys simply hanging around in the lobby, using the game like a virtual chat program, spamming those damn symbol arts, lol. It became even MORE annoying when they began spamming symbol arts with nudity in them and moving NPCs around, hacking the game.

That’s when I just switched to the primary JP blocks and just reset my hotkey stuff for Japanese greetings, departures, code locations, thanks, etc. That was generally on block 2 or 11, iirc. The great thing about playing with JP players was that they got things done.

It seemed like every time I wanted to do a quest, especially the emergency one, and teamed up with English players… Someone in the group (most of the time, more than one person actually) always wanted to talk more than kill stuff and it was annoying because we wouldn’t get as good of a result as we could have and would end up wasting time. Bleh.

        • Bobby Jennings

Damn you’ve had a rough time. This hasn’t happened to me at all, xD. Most of the english players I find are jumping at Emergency quests. I gained a ton of levels thanks to the help.

          • Consider yourself lucky, man. Most of the time I even joined JP parties, they would laugh because they thought I was an idiot, until I actually started typing back to them and whatnot, trying to explain to them that all of the NA players don’t act like chickens with their heads cut off. A lot of the players I ran into really gave NA players a bad name and were disgusting elitists. Ugh.

Also, Kobracon, you’d need to look up Japanese IME keyboard download on Google. That would help you for those situations.

        • Kobracon

LOL I just returned from that block and indeed there were alot of ppl in the lobby. There were 2 just dancing in chicken costumes and discussing which race’s females are hotter XD I haven’t quested with anyone yet.

How do you type Japanese? I assume I need a special keyboard? Or perhaps theres a program or driver i’m lacking?

      • Bobby Jennings

Ship 2 block 20. My IGN is Silence.

        • Kobracon

Cool. Mine is KobraCon (not sure if uppercase matters but thats how it shows on my character)

  • I figured as much. They haven’t even updated the official website since they announced it would be localized. Meanwhile, the game has been adding new content, releasing on new platforms, and updating overall in Japan.

I’m guessing all the new content is just adding more work for the team in charge of localizing the game.

I stopped playing the JPN version because I wanted to wait for the English version to come out. I hope they consider some beta testing or something now, considering the delay.

Let’s hope that Sega will have things ready to go by summer time.

    • Kobracon

      *in a haunting voice*

Come baaaack….come back to the JPN version…..

      • I’m going to wait it out, sorry. I really wanted to understand the story and stuff when I was trying it out before.

  • Prodigy-X

All I care about is a PS Vita western announcement.

    • NeoTechni

    • Kurisu Makise

Agreed in full, however perhaps just maybe…it means they’ll launch both at the same time with news at E3 =(

  • PrinceHeir

    damn it Sega!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Budgiecat

I’m still trying to figure out why the hell this is for PC and not PS3 since there is a Vita version and cross play with it would make more sense…

    • Because it was announced first for PC, way before it was announced for Vita.

  • shogunknight

Aww Hell No!! Sega dont do this to me, i love PSO

  • Kobracon

Wow What a coincidence. I JUST finished downloading the JP client XD

I ain’t waiting for Sega. Plus it’ll help my japanese learning anyway.

  • Bobby Jennings

Can’t say I’m surprised. I look forward to the release date Sega…and hopefully a Vita version as well.

  • DietSoap

I’m sure it’s because they’re hard at work bringing over Yakuza 5, Shining Blade/Ark, and Valkyria Chronicles 3 over.

  • I really really hope they are delaying it to get the vita version ready.

  • UnderDNS

I have this on my blog too :)
