Also, David Cage shares thoughts on 'no used games'.

A release date for Beyond: Two Souls, Quantic Dream’s latest PlayStation 3 project, will be announced soon, studio boss David Cage has said.

“Beyond is almost in beta. It will come out this year and the release date will be announced soon,” Cage told IGN at DICE Summit.

Asked his thoughts about the next PlayStation, Cage said while he “can’t really talk about the PlayStation 4,” he is “so impressed” by what’s currently possible on PlayStation 3 and “can’t wait” to see how PlayStation 4 fairs in comparison.

In light of recent rumors that the next Xbox won’t play used games, Cage said, “On one hand, I understand consumer’s position. Games are expensive. When they buy something they want to be able to trade it, most of the time to buy more games. I can understand that point.

“On the other side, I understand the point of the industry. Each time you buy a used game, this is money that doesn’t go into the pocket of the people that took the risk to create this, to finance it, to develop it. This is also unfair.”

He concluded, “So I don’t know what is the right answer. I don’t know if making this impossible [to play used games] is the answer. Maybe it is, maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s more about explaining and about telling people who really love games that if they buy used games, there will be a day where there won’t be any new games at all.”

Coming Fall 2013 bet on it.

  • Dean Winchester

Hope this launches in the fall of this year.

    • Thought I was the only one who wanted that game. The reason is it bombed super hard

  • Locksus

This will probably be one of PS3’s last exclusives before PS4’s imminent release later this year.
I wonder if it’s an interactive movie full of QTE like Heavy Rain.

    • Dean Winchester

      Heavy Rain was fantastic.

I dont know why QTE is looked at negatively.

      • Locksus

Deeeaaan! where’s your reading comprehension gone?:( I didn’t criticize the game at all. I was just pondering whether there will be QTE in the game or not.

        • From the few gameplay snippets released, it does look like QTEs will be present in the game.

      • KurisuMakise

I feel the same way. I liked that it was a different approach to adventure games besides straight “Choose a path/dialogue tree”. Beyond looks to be giving you more room to explore too which is always a plus and while I understand Locksus didn’t mean to criticize that, it is a notion I see floated around a lot.

      • The heads behind the dev for this game have stated many time that they don’t like video games. They tend to come out and say very negative things about video games in general so despite the graphics and stories in their games being good, the people behind them are full of negative thoughts and hatred towards games… but make them for a living. This leads people to believe that the fact that their games are more like movies with QTEs, they simply think of games as a way to make a paycheck and nothing more.

Day one purchase. I LOVED Heavy Rain and want to support the devs.

As for the used game discussion, I don’t think it would be as much of an issue if they lowered the price of new games. MS thinks they can have their cake and eat it too, removing the possibility of used games but keeping the price the same (or maybe raising it) per game. I don’t think it’s realistic that they should expect any support from customers when they do things like that.

I don’t think the price is the issue per say, but not every game necessarily needs to be $60. Sony has realized that, releasing Sly at $40. And having all Move only titles be $40. Collections being $40 to begin with, then reducing to $30 after R&C Collection came out.

I think publishers should play around more with pricing options. They don’t have to price themselves at $60. Maybe it would be best to launch at $40, then to tank on $60 and be dropped to $20 within a month (Enslaved).

Sega priced the new Sonic/Sega racing game at $40 as well I believe.

      • EspadaKiller

Totally agree with you. I don’t understand why games are priced at $60. In Asia, or my country Singapore, prices PS3 games from $60 to as high as $80.

If all console games cost around let’s say $30 – $40 then much more consumers will gladly buy them. Just look at Steam and it’s sale, I know many Singaporeans (including me) that buy many games from Steam during the sale. But non of them will buy full priced console games because it’s just too expensive.
