IGN has the scoop on Dead Space 3. A source of the site has shared new details on the rumored sequel from Visceral Games.
Most notable of the game’s features is a new drop-in, drop-out co-op system. Players will have the option to fight alongside a man with a scared face and engineering RIG of his own. The story of co-op mode mimicks that of single-player, but with story alterations. If you’re playing co-op, one scene will see Issac and the new character stumble upon each other, wounded and bloody. If you’re playing alone, the same scene will occur, only without the other character. Some of Issac’s hallucinations are said to not occur if he has a co-op partner. As co-op partners, Issac and the new character will work together solving environmental puzzles, sharing ammo and healing one another. There is no revive system, however, so once your partner is dead, it’s back to the check point for both players.
The franchise’s signature Plasma Cutter weapon is now “an entirely different weapon.” It’s alternate-fire has a similar knockback effect to the Force gun. The Pulse Rifle is now equipped with saw-blades as an alternate-fire. The workbench, where players can upgrade weapons and gear, has also changed.
Both Issac and his co-op partner wear “slender, angular” armor like that of Dead Space 2. Players are now able to crouch and hide behind objects, and can roll left and right to evade attacks. Telekinesis now allows you to rotate items.
Enemies in Dead Space 3 include taller versions of the second game’s “Pack” creatures, and now, human beings. You’ll go up against “heavily armored soldiers” equipped with guns and grenades. “Skyscraper-sized” enemies should also be expected. One scene sees Issac come into contact with a “massive worm-like beast bursting from the ice beneath a cliff.”
Environmental enemies include a spinning drill, which could slice through players. The site mentions “open, icy areas,” which conforms to the blizzard planet rumor from September last year.
Stay tuned. If Dead Space 3 is in production, we wouldn’t doubt an E3 announcement next month.
