Faraway
Faraway is an arcade video game developed by Steph Thirion and published by Annapurna Interactive.
About
“I am a shooting star! A spark meant to shine and vanish in a blink. But I will travel! I will mark my trail in every firmament. I will live to see the universe.” Faraway is an immersive, both challenging and chill, procedurally generated audiovisual experience about creating constellations.
Faraway is a single-player game, where you control a shooting star who is constantly in the process of vanishing, but keeping itself alive by harvesting energy from the stars, by creating constellations. Players have to tame the smooth, flowing controls of swinging and slingshotting around stars, while weaving an energy string and connecting it to stars.
Faraway has a randomly generated core mode, and 16 puzzle stages.
In the core mode, every game stars from scratch with a new world that procedurally generates itself in realtime based on the player’s performance, allowing experienced players to catapult themselves quickly to higher scores and higher levels of difficulty. Players have complete freedom on how to shape their constellations, but certain moves – like making loops – yield extra energy and points.
The 16 puzzle stages present new ways to think about the game mechanics and get better at the core mode.
Created single handedly by Steph Thirion, game designer, creative coder and musician, with all visuals being fully generated from scratch in realtime, Faraway is an elegantly minimal-yet-deep game, wrapped in an audiovisual experience that will have players return to it for a long time.
