Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold expansion extended teaser trailer and latest details, Switch 2 version launches August 4

Final Fantasy VII Remake project crossover event also announced.

Square Enix released a five-minute extended teaser trailer and new details for Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, the patch 8.0 expansion for Final Fantasy XIV due out in January 2027, as well as announced that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV will launch on August 4.

Pre-orders for the Switch 2 version are available now. As previously announced, the Switch 2 version will require a separate monthly subscription from the other versions, but will not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Users already subscribed on other platforms can receive a 50 percent discount on the Switch 2 version’s subscription fee..

Square Enix also released a new teaser trailer for the Evangelion crossover raid series, “Ghosts of Desire,” and announced a Final Fantasy VII Remake project crossover event, “Beyond the Lifestream.”

Final Fantasy XIV is available now for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. Square Enix said that the new expansion will continue to support PlayStation 4, but that it will soon near its capacity to physically contain Final Fantasy XIV on PlayStation 4, estimating that PlayStation 4 support will end after Patch 8.3—which should arrive in about two years.
