Sony Interactive Entertainment has opened a PlayStation history timeline website in celebration of the console’s 30th anniversary approaching on December 3, featuring various information and statistics spanning each generation of PlayStation.
The website also confirms that PlayStation 2 has sold over 160 million units, which former Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan stated during an episode of the Official PlayStation Podcast in March, but was not reflected on any official website, including Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own “Business Data Sales” page, which still lists the console as selling 155 million.
The sales numbers shared on the 30th anniversary website are as follows:
- PlayStation – 102 million (from 1994 to 2006)
- PlayStation 2 – 160 million (since 2000)
- PlayStation 3 – 87 million (since 2006)
- PlayStation 4 – 117 million (since 2013)
