Maschinen-Mensch will host an open beta test for multiplayer action platformer / RPG hybrid Mother Machine for PC via Steam from November 22 a 1:00 a.m. PT / 4:00 a.m. ET until November 25 at the same time, the developer announced.
The studio describes the beta test as a work-in-progress build of the game released to the public for the purposes of optimizing and fine-tuning core mechanics and online multiplayer functionality.
Here is an overview of the beta test, via Maschinen-Mensch:
Built using Unreal Engine 5 and inspired by the studio’s experience in procedurally-generated game design, Mother Machine is a one-to-four-player cooperative action platformer with RPG elements, set in the eerie cave networks of a derelict space colony. Players control one of many grotesquely adorable “chaos gremlins” who are endlessly sent to death, then revived by their malfunctioning robot mother in search of resources, technology, and the answers to the planet’s darkest mysteries.
This beta playtest will feature multiple levels for players to explore, each of which is set across a different biome, as well as a central Hub to connect with other players and level up their gremlin of choice. There will be limited customization options available, but necessarily won’t carry over for players who return for future playtests.
This playtest will offer several new features not available to participants of past playtests, including mouse-and-keyboard support, new user interface animations and icons, enhanced visual and audio effects, and more! This playtest will have no player cap, and will be available on Steam.
Mother Machine is due out for PC via Steam and unspecified consoles in Q1 2025.
