Side-scrolling precision platformer Croak announced for PC
From Cuphead and Rick and Morty talent.
WoodRunner Games, a developer comprised of talents behind Cuphead and Rick and Morty, has announced Croak, a side-scrolling precision platformer featuring an innovative grapple mechanic. It will be available for PC via Steam. A release date was not announced.
“Our team shares a passion for the classic platforming genre, and it holds a special place in the hearts of many players,” said WoodRunner Games CEO Max Petroff in a press release. “So, we have set out to create a game that will surprise, delight, and test players with beautifully hand-drawn characters and environments, meticulously crafted levels, tight mechanics, and an immersive story.”
WoodRunner Games co-founder and creative director Rob Marquis added, “Having a frog as our protagonist not only takes us into some interesting settings and plays into the plot, but it allows us to focus on an innovative core mechanic that is both simple in its singularity and difficult to master. The frog prince uses his tongue for mobility, attacks, and manipulating his environment. It adds strategic elements as well as just being really fun.”

Once upon a time, there was a magnificent kingdom that got cursed, and a prince turned into a frog. With art and animation from some of the talents behind Cuphead and the Rick and Morty show, Croak is a fractured fairy tale with a cast of quirky, lovable characters.
Croak is a nimble and challenging precision platformer featuring an innovative grapple mechanic. Use the prince’s tongue to dash and bounce around through hundreds of hand-crafted rooms. Manipulate the environment as you traverse distinct biomes, each with unique gameplay mechanics and bosses.
Key Features
- Pure Platformer – Master the SuperBonk ability: a deceptively simple moveset that allows him to use his tongue as a grapple to propel and bounce around levels. Make good use of the interactive platforming elements, sharp reflexes, and strategic thinking in order to make it through.
- Reach Your Castle – The journey will take you through various biomes, each with its own gameplay twist. Traverse swamps, haunted mines, snowy mountain ranges, and try to reach the cursed castle. Unlock secret areas, discover collectibles, face enemies and defeat bosses.
- Lift the Curse – Why did the prince get cursed? Unravel the mystery as you explore the kingdom: its subjects transformed into animals and the realm poisoned by deadly spiky vines. This fractured fairy tale, with beautiful hand-crafted visuals, will have you leaping to the challenge in search of your hoppily ever after.
