Publisher Square Enix and developer indieszero have announced rhythm game Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line for PlayStation 4 and Switch. It will launch on February 16, 2023 worldwide.

Memories of Final Fantasy Revived through Music
In 2012, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was released as the first music game in the Final Fantasy series. This rhythm action game is packed with musical gems carefully selected from titles ranging from Final Fantasy I to the latest numbered title, as well as remakes, side stories and spin-offs, and even various soundtrack CDs. The Theatrhythm series is characterized by its simple controls where players press buttons in time with moving Triggers, as well as its cute stylized FF characters, rhythm action-driven RPG battles, and beautiful cut scenes. Since the first game, many songs have been added to the series, expanding the scope of play and bringing the series to a variety of platforms. In 2023, Theatrhythm will make a new appearance on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 with the largest number of songs in its history!

Press and Tilt to the Rhythm!
When the Triggers on screen overlap with a Trigger Mark, make your move!
The red, yellow, and green circles are called “Triggers.” When they overlap with the white circles to the right of the screen called “Trigger Marks,” make a well-timed move with a button or stick!
Simple controls make for intuitive gameplay that anyone can pick up.

There are three difficulty levels to choose from for each piece of music: Basic / Expert / Ultimate.
In addition, about one-third of the songs offer the highest difficulty level, “Supreme”!

Touch Trigger: Press a button.
Slide Trigger: Move the stick in the direction of the arrow. Use two sticks for two arrows.
Hold Trigger: Hold a button for the duration of the trigger and let go at the end.

When you unlock a title, you’ll also unlock its associated characters. You can also obtain enemy characters by clearing all stages.

It’s not just about clearing the songs; each song has its own quest, such as “Defeat 10 ‘Bomb’ enemies,” to test your party formation skills. Songs cleared in this mode are unlocked to play in Music Stages!
Endless World
Once you complete a special title, Endless World will be unlocked! In this stage, a random song is chosen each time, and quest difficulty increases gradually as you progress. Fail three quests and it’s over! Your ingenuity and technique will be tested to see how far you can advance in a single attempt.
■ Game Mode: Multi Battle
Online multiplayer matches with up to four players!
Uses bursts to fight for victory.
—Enter a room and choose a song.
Join another player’s room or create your own and wait for opponents to come to you. If you want to play with just your friends, you can set a password to enter the room. Once everyone is ready, select which song you want to play, and the battle song will be selected at random from among the songs chosen by the players.
—Let the battle begin!
Fill the Burst Gauge to unleash Bursts, which are special moves that can hinder other players or turn the tables to your advantage. The battle heats up in the second half, where two Burst techniques are activated at the same time!
—Choose a CollectaCard based on your ranking!
After Multi Battles, you can obtain a CollectaCard to add to your collection. Players take turns choosing one CollectaCard from a random set, starting with the first place winner. At the end, the players also exchange ProfiCards.
Burst Examples
- Fat Chocobo Time: A Fat Chocobo will appear on the lanes, hiding them from view and getting in your way.
- Moogle Dance: A Moogle will appear near the Trigger Marks and hide the Triggers from view.
- Point Freeze: Points will be frozen for a period of time and the player’s score will not increase unless they get a rainbow CRITICAL or CRITICAL.
