"An occult historical fantasy RPG set in a fictionalized Portugal in the Middle Ages."Something Wicked Games, a new studio founded by former Bethesda Softworks, Obsidian Entertainment, and BioWare developers with initial seed funding of $13.2 million from NetEase Games, has announced Wyrdsong, an “AAA open-world preternatural RPG.” Platforms and a release date were not announced.
“Wyrdsong is an occult historical fantasy RPG set in a fictionalized Portugal in the Middle Ages,” reads the press release. “Players will be challenged to question both their reality and the choices they make as Wyrdsong is set to expand, question, and re-define aspects of what makes up the current role-playing game genre.”
The studio’s staff is led by CEO and founder Jeff Gardiner, a 15-year veteran of Bethesda Softworks, where he worked on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76; and co-founder Charles Staples, who previously worked on The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas; with other creative and technical lead talent hailing from the aforementioned studios.
“Our goal with Something Wicked Games is to utilize our independence and creative autonomy to create the next evolution of open world RPGs,” said Gardiner. “Our first project, Wyrdsong, has been my dream game for some time now, and I’, thrilled to finally share it today.”
