PlayStation 5 has shipped 19.3 million units worldwide and PlayStation 4 has shipped 117.2 million units, Sony announced in its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022.
A total of two million PlayStation 5 units and 0.1 million PlayStation 4 units were shipped during the three months ended March 31, 2022. PlayStation 5 shipments were down 1.3 million from the 3.3 million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year, while PlayStation 4 shipments were down 0.9 million from the one million shipped.
Sony expects to ship 18 million PlayStation 5 units in the fiscal year that started on April 1, 2022 and ends on March 31, 2023. The company describes this as “a number based on our current visibility into parts procurement.”
Here are a couple of additional statistics:
- There are 47.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of March 31, 2022, which is down 0.2 million from the 47.6 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 70.5 million units in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2021, which is up 9.1 million from the 61.4 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 14.5 million units were first-party titles, which is up 6.6 million from to the 7.9 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 71 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 79 percent the previous year.
