Xbox Backward Compatibility adds 70 new games
Max Payne series, F.E.A.R. series, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and more.Microsoft has added over 70 original Xbox and Xbox 360 games to its Xbox One and Xbox Series backward compatibility catalog, the company announced.
The newly added list of titles includes the entire Max Payne and F.E.A.R. franchises, Skate 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II, Star Wars: Starfighter, and the Otogi series.
You will be able to play these games if you own them on disc or digitally, and the “vast majority” will be available for purchase digitally starting later today.
Additionally, every backward compatible title added today will feature improved visual quality with auto high dynamic range on supported displays, and original Xbox games will experience a resolution increase on all Xbox Series and Xbox One consoles on supported displays (four times increase on Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, three times on Xbox Series S, and two times on Xbox One S and Xbox One). Eleven titles will also receive a frame rate boost, including F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. 3, Binary Domain, and NIER.
Existing backward compatible titles will also receive a frame rate boost, including the entire Gears of War series, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins, Dead Space 2, Dead Space 3, Alan Wake, and Sonic Generations.
With the news of surprise additions to the Xbox Backward Compatibility catalog more than a year after its “final” batch of additions, Xbox Backward Compatibility lead Peggy Lo told The Verge, “While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games, we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal, and technical constraints.”
