Sega trademarks Sonic Frontiers in Japan; Square Enix trademarks The Diofield Chronicle, The Beasts of Burden; more
New Taiko no Tatsujin games on the way?Sega filed trademarks for “Sonic Frontiers” in Japan in both English and Japanese on October 22.
The development of an untitled new Sonic the Hedgehog game was announced back in May, so it is possible “Sonic Frontiers” will be its final name.
Other new trademarks from Sega include “Shining Force” and “Hikari to Yami no Eiyuu” (Heroes of Light and Darkness), but those are for the upcoming mobile game.
Square Enix also filed trademarks for “The Diofield Chronicle” and “The Beasts of Burden” on October 21. The latter has also been trademarked in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia.
While this was made public last week, the company also filed a trademark for “Toraware no Mamono” in Japan on October 19, which can loosely translate to “The Captive Beasts.” Though whether it is related to “The Beasts of Burden” is unknown.
In non-Japan-specific trademark news, Square Enix filed registrations for “Various Daylife” in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Various Daylife is Square Enix’s “daily life and adventure RPG” released for Apple Arcade back in September 2019.
Bandai Namco filed a trademark for “Origination” in the United States on November 1, and trademarks for “Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival” and “Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master” on November 2. There are currently no announced upcoming Taiko no Tatsujin games.
Update 12/06/21 at 2:40 a.m.: Square Enix filed trademarks for “The Diofield Chronicle” in Australia and Europe on December 1 and 2, respectively.
