Final Fantasy IX: Memoria Project teaser trailer – a non-playable, fan-made passion project that aims to reimagine the RPG in modern graphics
Team hopes it will motivate Square Enix to do the same.Final Fantasy IX: Memoria Project, a non-playable, fan-made passion project led by a team of professional developers and artists that aims to reimagine the world of Final Fantasy IX in modern graphics, has released its first teaser trailer, dubbed “Welcome to Alexandria.”
The Memoria Project began with two people back in January 2020, but development only recently started to pick up steam in March 2021. Now, the team is 28 people strong.
Project lead Dan Eder, who is also a senior 3D character artist on the newly announced Warner Bros. Games platform fighter MultiVersus, told Gematsu that since the project is not actually playable, the goal is to ultimately realize what the team’s dream of a triple-A, current-generation Final Fantasy IX remake could look like, as well as potentially motivate Square Enix to want to do the same.
As for how far into the world of Final Fantasy IX the Memoria Project plans to dive, Eder said that the current focus is on Alexandria exploration gameplay, but the team later plans to tackle cinematics and some combat sequences.
