■ New Yuffie Episode: Final Fantasy VII Remake EPISODE INTERmission
Amidst the confusion of Mako Reactor 5’s destruction, Wutai makes its move on the city of Midgar.
Yuffie and her partner Sonon, two elite ninja operatives for the Wutaian government, have been assigned a dangerous mission: to steal the Shinra Electric Power Company’s most powerful materia. Together with Avalanche HQ’s support, they cross behind enemy lines to reclaim their homeland’s former glory and exact revenge long in the making.
Unbeknownst to Yuffie, however, the wheel of fate is turning, and unforeseen consequences await.
The world had become so clear, yet they could not hear her cries.
■ Characters
Nero (voiced by Sean Chiplock in English, Ryoutarou Okiayu in Japanese)
“How dare you? How dare you stand in my way?”
Nero is a member of an elite unit within Deepground known as the Tsviets. As a result of the experiment that brought him into the world, he has the power to control darkness. Dubbed “Nero the Sable” by some, he lives up to that title by engulfing whatever he pleases in a vast abyss. He’s also the younger brother of Weiss the Immaculate, whom he practically worships.
Scarlet and The Crimson Mare (voiced by Erin Cottrell in English)
“But now? Now Wutaians are nothing but blood-sucking flies, buzzing around Shinra’s face.”
As Shinra’s director of Advanced Weaponry, she’s in charge of creating the ultimate materia Wutai wants to steal.
Always the consummate host, when Yuffie and Sonon infiltrate her division, she graciously lets them be test subjects for the Crimson Mare—a suit of battle armor she developed and pilots herself.
True to its name, the Crimson Mare paints the arena red with the blood of its foes—thanks to interchangeable weapons such as sabers and makocannons.
Scarlet developed the awesome armor personally and takes the pilot seat against the heroes. They’ll have their work cut out for them – the Crimson Mare comes equipped with interchangeable weapons, such as sabers and makocannons. True to its name, it’s more than capable of painting the arena red with the blood of its foes.
■ Battle Mechanics: Yuffie and Sonon’s Synergy
Sonon cannot be controlled in battle, but he can be given orders.
He’s no passive participant in battle though; pressing L2 will engage synergy with Yuffie, which allows them to team up for special attacks and to more easily stagger enemies.
Synergized Attacks
If both Yuffie and Sonon have ATB charges available, they can perform synergized versions of certain attacks.
—Synergized Art of War
Buffet an enemy with blows, and all subsequent attacks deal increased damage.
—Synergized Windstorm
Create a gust of wind that damages nearby enemies and launches them toward you.
Limit Breaks
Limit breaks are devastating attacks that can be unleashed once a character has taken enough damage to fill their limit gauge.
—Yuffie’s Limit Break: Bloodbath
Unleash a flurry of blows that deals a large amount of damage.
—Sonon’s Limit Break: Dance of the Dragon
Deliver myriad blows with your staff, dealing a large amount of damage.
■ Minigame: Fort Condor
Inspired by one of Shinra’s military campaigns, Fort Condor is a game of strategy in which two players deploy units to conquer their opponent’s base and defend their own.
Recently, the game has seen an uptick in popularity in the Sector 7 undercity, and word on the street is that those who defeat the grandmaster can win a rare orb of materia.
First, select what board ─which determines the number of ATB charges and materia available to you—to use, along with the units you wish to deploy.
Use ATB charges to deploy a unit. Once deployed, it will march toward your opponent’s base and automatically engage enemy units it encounters.
A unit is assigned one of three roles: vanguard, ranged, or defense. These roles determine what enemies it will be effective against.
Materia can be used to cast powerful spells, but keep in mind that each orb can only be used once per match, so timing is everything.
■ Summons
If you have summoning materia equipped and the summon gauge is full, you’ll be able to invoke a powerful entity to aid you in combat. Summons fight alongside you automatically, but you can issue commands to them using your party members’ ATB charges. Just before the entity leaves battle, it will deliver a devastating ultimate attack.
Ramuh
The fabled Lord of Levin is capable of bending lightning to his will to strike down enemies. It’s said that he once cast judgment on the wicked with mighty bolts and exhorted humanity to accept the ways of law and order.
—Ability: Voltaic Lance
Summons a lance of lightning that deals damage to nearby enemies for a short period of time.
—Ultimate Attack: Judgment Bolt
Conjures a powerful lightning storm that lays waste to all enemies on the battlefield.
