PlayStation 5 has shipped 7.8 million units worldwide and PlayStation 4 has shipped 115.9 million units, Sony announced in its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021. Sony exceeded its forecast of 7.6 million PlayStation 5 units shipped by 200,000 units.
A total of 3.3 million PlayStation 5 units and one million PlayStation 4 units were shipped during the three months ended March 31, 2021. PlayStation 4 shipments were down 0.4 million from the 1.4 million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year.
Here are a couple of additional statistics:
- There are 47.6 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of March 31, 2021, which is up 6.1 million from the 41.5 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 61.4 million units in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020, which is down 3.9 million from the 65.3 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 7.9 million units were first-party titles, which is down 1.3 million from to the 9.2 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 79 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 68 percent the previous year.
