PlayStation 5, which first launched on November 12, 2020, shipped 4.5 million units worldwide by the end of 2020, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended December 31, 2020. The company said it is on-track to meet its forecast of 7.6 million units shipped by March 31, 2021.
Worldwide total shipments for PlayStation 4 have also reached 115 million. A total of 1.4 million PlayStation 4 units were shipped during the three months ended December 31, 2020, which is down 4.6 million from the six million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year.
Here are a couple of additional statistics:
- There are 47.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of December 31, 2020, which is up 8.6 million from the 38.8 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
- PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 103.7 million units in the third quarter of fiscal year 2020, which is up 20.4 million from the 83.3 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 18.4 million units were first-party titles, which is up 2.1 million from to the 16.3 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 53 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 50 percent the previous year.
