Mystery adventure game Root Film will launch for PlayStation 4 and Switch on April 23, 2020 in Japan for 6,800 yen, publisher and developer Kadokawa Games announced.
Pre-orders will open on December 25. As previously announced, pre-orders include the “i☆Ris x Root Film Treasured Footage Collection,” which is a bonus DVD of the i☆Ris concert at Kadokawa Games Grand Festival 2019 and a behind-the-scenes look at the studio recording of the Root Film theme song.
Kadokawa Games also announced plans to open its own online store, Kadoge Store, on December 26. Pre-orders for Root Film at Kadoge Store will include a special original bonus.
Root Film is directed and written by Hifumi Kouno, with character design by Taro Mino. The mystery adventure game features a story involving dual protagonists, video tricks, unexpected plot twists, “innovative” CG, and more. Protagonists Rintarou Yagumi and Riho are voiced by Wataru Komada and Himika Akaneya, respectively, with other led characters voiced by the members of voice actor idol unit i☆Ris, as well as by Noriko Hidaka and Yuuko Minaguchi, who return from their roles in Root Letter.
A western release for Root Film is also planned, but has yet to receive a release date.
