Heaven Burns Red

Key and WFS have announced Heaven Burns Red, a collaborative RPG due out for iOS and Android in 2020 in Japan.

Here is the staff list:

  • Original Concept: Key x WFS
  • Original Story and Main Scenario Writer: Jun Maeda (Air, Clannad, and Little Busters)
  • Character Design and Main Visual: Yuugen
  • Original Character Design: Na-Ga / Fumuyun / Maroyaka
  • Music: Jun Maeda
  • Songs: Jun Maeda x Yanaginagi

Here is a message from Jun Maeda:

I’ll be providing the original story and scenario for Key’s new game, Heaven Burns Red. As I feel the culture of visual novels is fading in relevance, it is my hope that creating a new game for smartphones will allow us to keep the Key brand from fading as well.

And I’d like you to know, just because it’s on smartphones, doesn’t mean we will be compromising on our vision. It will be fun, you’ll feel empathy for the characters, and will cry at the end.

We’ve been working very hard with WFS and Yuugen over the past few years to help usher in this new era for Key.

We also brought yanaginagi on board to contribute vocals for the music, and we’re finally able to let you listen to a teaser.

We’re planning on releasing new vocal tracks once a month leading up to the game’s release, so please follow our official social media accounts to be notified as soon as they’re released, and please look forward to Heaven Burns Red!

The theme song, “Before I Rise,” can be previewed at the teaser website. Follow the game on Twitter @HeavenBurnsRed.

Update 12/02/19 at 8:00 a.m.: Key and WFS have launched an official English website. The message from Maeda above has been replaced with its official English translation.
