PS4 worldwide shipments top 96.8 million

Worldwide total shipments for PlayStation 4 have reached 96.8 million, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2019.

A total of 2.6 million PlayStation 4s were shipped during the third quarter, which is up 0.1 million from the same period the previous fiscal year.

Sony shipped a total of 17.8 million PlayStation 4s in fiscal year 2018, which is down 1.2 million from the 19 million shipped in fiscal year 2017, but 0.3 million more units than Sony’s forecast of 17.5 million.

Sony forecasts it will sell 16 million PlayStation 4s in fiscal year 2019, which runs from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

Here are a couple of additional statistics:

• PlayStation Plus subscribers topped 36.4 million as of March 31, 2019, which is up 2.2 million from the previous fiscal year.
• PlayStation 4 software sold 54.7 million units in the fourth quarter, which is up 2.7 million from the previous fiscal year. 45 percent of those sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 43 percent the previous year.
