PS4 worldwide shipments top 86.1 million

Worldwide total shipments for PlayStation 4 have reached 86.1 million, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2018.

A total of 3.9 million PlayStation 4s were shipped during the second quarter, which is down 0.3 million from the same period the previous fiscal year.

Sony has also increased its previous forecast of 17 million PlayStation 4s shipped in fiscal year 2018, which runs from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, to 17.5 million units. The upward revision is due to the impact of foreign exchange rates, and an increase in sales for game software, PlayStation 4 hardware units, and PlayStation Plus memberships.

Here are a couple of additional statistics:

• PlayStation Plus subscribers topped 34.3 million as of September 30, 2018, which is up 6.2 million from the previous fiscal year.
• PlayStation 4 software sold 75.1 million units in the second quarter, which is up 5.4 million from the previous fiscal year. 28 percent of those sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 27 percent last year.
