Arc of Alchemist details Garett, Darius, Ace, Erin, and exploration

Compile Heart has updated the official website for Arc of Alchemist with information and screenshots on new characters Garret Van Dyne, Darius Kendrick, Ace Nightlok, and Eren Van Dyne, as well as field exploration.

■ Characters
Garett Van Dyne (voiced by Takaya Kuroda)
A military officer of the Noihafen Principality. A character rumored both in and out of the country to be a “cruel and heartless man.” At first glance, his looks and behavior appear to be true to the rumor, but he has a family and always makes decisions that prioritize the safety of his subordinates. Quinn belongs to an enemy nation, and he is quite interested in the rumors of her ability that have reached as far as his country.
Darius Kendrick (voiced by Wataru Takagi)
An executive of the Principality army and a veteran soldier. He pulverizes those that block his path forward with the large axe he wields. He is one of the few people who know the reality of Garett, who rumors call a “cruel and heartless man.” An extremely caring man, he is filled with love for his family, as demonstrated through his cooking for his wife and children.
Ace Nightlok (voiced by Taku Yashiro)
A man who specializes in ranged firing, and one of Garett’s close associates. He has a cool and collected personality and does not say more than necessary. However, he is by no means anti-social—he advises Erin like a good friend, or even an older brother, and is aquainted with Darius’ young son.
Erin Van Dyne (voiced by Hisako Tojo)
A battle engineer that specializes in the use of explosives. Garett’s only daughter, she followed him and volunteered to join the principality army. “She joined through personal connections and was promoted”—she hates when people speak ill of her behind her back and is putting in effort to obtain results with her own abilities.
■ Exploration
The Mechanical Desert: Control the Four Attributes and Solve the Gimmicks of the Machines
Quinn’s Luna Gear will be of use while exploring the desert. When machines block your path forward, you can use the Luna Gear to manipulate the four attributes of “fire,” “water,” wind,” and “earth” to break through the obstacle. Among those obstacles are some that you cannot overcome without using multiple attributes, so try whatever comes to mind to progress through the mechanical desert.
—A Luna Gear equipped with a fire orb can burn things and melt ice. By using the street lights in the ruins, you can light up dark places.
—Since the earth blocks you can summon with an earth orb-equipped Luna Gear that can be used as a defensive wall in battle are also climbable, they will also serve as a means of reaching higher places.
Traps Will Prevent You from Moving Forward
—Even in places that seem to be empty at first glance, there may be machine-based field gimmicks somewhere. Walls may suddenly appear and you may get lost.
—Desert gimmicks do not only block your path forward, they also attack Quinn and company and may even deal damage. The desert’s threats are not limited to machine dolls and dangerous creatures. Proceed carefully.
Desert Field Gimmicks and Battles: Utilize the Desert’s Field Gimmicks and Figure out the Enemy’s Weakness
In Arc of Alchemist, you can utilize the desert’s field gimmicks to skillfully progress in battle.
Enemies that wander about places where the light of the “abandoned town” does not reach are extremely powerful and difficult to defeat with standard attacks. However, by using fire orbs to turn on nearby street lights, the light will reach and weaken the enemy, allowing Quinn and company to attack.
On the other hand, since street lights will die out after a fixed period of time, it is necessary to attack the enemy and control the street light field gimmick at the same time. It may be difficult to fight alone. However, if you are fighting alongside comrades, you will be able to overcome any hardship.
Arc of Alchemist is due out for PlayStation 4 on February 7, 2019 in Japan.
