Capcom trademarks Onimusha in several countries
High-definition remasters incoming?Capcom has filed trademarks for “Onimusha” across several territories, suggesting it is planning to revive its long-dormant samurai series.
The trademark was filed in the following territories:
- Australia (Japanese characters)
- Europe (Japanese characters)
- Canada (Japanese characters)
- New Zealand (Japanese characters)
- Norway (Japanese characters)
- Mexico
- Phillippines (Japanese characters)
- Singapore (Japanese characters)
Here is a brief history of the Onimusha series’ releases:
- Onimusha: Warlord (PS2, 2001) (Xbox and PC, 2002)
- Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny (PS2, 2002)
- Onimusha Tactics (GBA, 2003) – A strategy RPG spin-off.
- Onimusha Blade Warriors (PS2, 2003) – A 2D fighter spin-off.
- Onimusha 3: Demon Siege (PS2, 2004) (PC, 2005)
- Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (PS2, 2006)
- Onimusha Soul (Mobile, 2012) (PC, 2013) (PS3, 2014) – A browser-based strategy RPG spin-off that has since shut down.
Capcom is not one unfamiliar with high-definition remasters, so it may be possible that the company is planning to re-release the mainline trilogy in a single package for current generation consoles. That, of course, is only speculation on our end.
