Sirlin Games is bringing Fantasy Strike, its “deceptively simple” fighting game that aims to bring the fun of fighting games to a wider audience while still remaining a competitive e-sport, to PlayStation 4.
The studio behind the game is headed by David Sirlin, who has more than 25 years in fighting game history, including three Top 8 finishes at Evolution and a job as lead designer on Street Fighter HD Remix.
Fantasy Strike has one-button inputs for every move and no crouching. There is also zero-button input for a special throw called the “yomi counter.” To perform it, you let go of your controls, and if your opponent tries to throw you, you’ll automatically reverse it and throw them instead with a special animation. You’ll also gain a full super meter boost.
The game’s characters come from the Yomi card game. There are currently eight of the original cast of 10 characters. The current plan is to do more polish and tuning, add more characters and modes, and implement online play using GGPO networking technology.
Fantasy Strike will be at PlayStation Experience 2016 from December 3 to 4.
