Prideful Sloth, an Australia-based development studio led by a trio who were formerly an Activision producer, a Rocksteady Studios artist, and a Rocksteady senior programmer, has announced Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, an open-world adventure game, due out for PlayStation 4 and PC in Q2 2017.
Set to debut at PlayStation Experience 2016 in Anaheim, California this weekend, Yonder is set on a giant island called “Gemea,” described as a “lush frontier with eight distinct environments ranging from sunny tropical beaches to frigid snowcapped summits.” Each location has its own flora and fauna, along with changing seasons and a day-night cycle. It was once a paradise and still maintains that appearance, but an evil murkhas has enshourded the land and its people in despair.
Players will take on the role of the hero, who will uncover the islands secrets and mysteries, and embark on a journey of self-discovery while saving Gemea and its people. In doing so, players will unite with Sprites, “ethereal creatures whom are the only thing capable of dispersing the murk.”
The towns of Gemea are filled with kind residents who have faced many difficulties since the murk’s arrival. Players can build relationships with the locals by contributing to the island through farming, crafting, cooking, fishing, brewing, and so on in order to earn rewards, such as resources to a new farm.
