Compile Heart has updated the Black Rose Valkyrie official website with details on the game’s “Tactical Fluid Battle System.”
Get the information below.
■ Tactical Fluid Battle System
Black Rose Valkyrie uses a “Tactical Fluid Battle System” where the order of actions changes in real time and both allies and enemies fight in disorder. Each character’s icon moves on top of the “Tactical Weight Gauge,” and once it reaches “ACT,” command selection is then possible. The movement speed of the icon depends on the “speed” of the character. Icon movement changes in real time and does not stop, even while the character is performing normal combo attacks.
Tactical Weight Gauge
On this gauge, each character’s icon moves and the order of actions changes. The movement speed of the icon depends on the “speed” of the character, and if a faster character overtakes another icon, that character can perform an action first.
Charge
An attack that lets you switch places with an enemy icon or cancel an attack. Although the Charge attack is low in power, it lets you suppress an enemy’s actions to some extent and can prove useful if utilized properly.
■ Combos
“Combos” are a basic attack technique of the Valkyrie Party that are set in advance and are let out one after the other. The first attack included, combos can be set for five possible attacks. After the command is selected, you can choose a combo “attack level,” choosing from Levels 1 to 3 based on the situation. Since it’s possible to set combinations of attacks for each level, you can customize combos to suit your battle style. Additionally, there are “Riot Combos” that trigger special effects by combining specific attacks in a combo, allowing you to easily perform powerful attacks.
Attack Level
When using a combo, you can select between attack levels 1 to 3. Depending on the level selected, the time until the action begins is different. For example, a Level 1 combo has low power, but is quick to attack, while a Level 3 combo is more powerful, but takes longer to attack.
Combos
Combos are attacks set in advance that are let out one after the other. During the attack, it is possible to stop the movement of the enemy’s gauge icon.
Combo Settings
Combos are set based on attack level. By combining attacks that have a variety of effects, there are countless ways to fight. Use these settings to build a battle style all your own.
Riot Combo
Riot Combos are combos with special effects that are triggered by setting a combo to “one before” the combo of the specified “Type.” It doesn’t have any particularly complex conditions, and allows you to easily perform powerful attacks.
■ Arts
Asahi and the Valkyrie unit have a special means of attacking called “Arts.” When using Arts, movement of the character icon on top of the Tactical Weight Gauge is stopped. Combos are “attacks that don’t stop time,” while Arts are “attacks that stop time,” and each should be used properly based on the situation. Since Arts are more powerful than combos, they consume AP and aren’t designed for continuous use. Arts are also similar to combos, and although there are attack levels, since levels are set for each Art, level selection is not required. There are also Arts you can perform together with your teammates, which can be triggered by meeting certain conditions. Since these co-op attacks are powerful, using them effectively will become a key to winning the fight.
Arts
When using Arts, movement of the the character icon on top of the Tactical Weight Gauge is stopped.
Co-Op Arts
Co-op attacks require that a supporting “Formation” is formed, and can be triggered when there are no enemies in between the icons of the characters participating in the attack.
■ Ignition
Ignition is a command triggered by consuming TP and increases the user’s physical ability. There are attack levels within Ignition, and its effects are different depending on the level. During Ignition time, “fatigue” will continue to build up for every action. If your level of fatigue exceeds a certain value, you can cancel your Ignition by selecting a “Cool Down” command, or by simply getting defeated.
Triggering Ignition
By consuming TP (Technical Points), which you can accumulate by attacking and such, you can trigger Ignition. You can choose your attack level at the time you trigger it. The higher the level, the more effects you’ll acquire.
■ Overdrive
During Ignition, a command called “Overdrive” will appear. By consuming TP and activating Overdrive, further effects are given to the Ignition and you can use your Valkyrie weapon at full power. The user is able to withstand its output by excessively being administered enhancing agents from the Valkyrie. An an effect of Overdrive time, in these battles where turns pass quickly and the order of actions changes in real-time, your enhanced “speed” is a key element. If you can use it well, you can seize the initiative in battle.
Triggering Overdrive
In regards to Overdrive time, when the enhancement agent from a T-C-S weapon is excessively administered, its resulting side effect is a personality split. In addition to the character completely changing, their hair and eye color also change.
Overdrive
Attacks during Overdrive time have overwhelming power. Your “speed” also greatly increases and you can attack in a flash.
■ Pursuit
Enemies have a set “Guard Value.” When this Guard Value becomes “0,” the enemy enters a “Down State,” during which you can activate a fifth combo called the “EX Combo.” Additionally, if there is a pair of rear guard characters, there is a set chance that the rear guard character triggers a “Side Attack,” and if further requirements are met, an “Additional Attack” can also be triggered. An Additional Attack is a powerful attack where all of the rear guard characters attack simultaneously. When you activate it, you can choose to strike a single enemy or all enemies.
Simultaneous Attack
A simultaneous attack is when the rear guard characters attack all at once. It can be activated even if there is just one character able to act in the rear guard.
■ Formation
Formation triggers various effects on each character. If a character is defeated during battle, their effect within the formation is lost. Enemies also have formations, as well as cases where special effects are triggered. In such an event, you can cancel their formation effect by defeating the enemies and reducing their numbers. Your formation is set beforehand, but by consuming TP you can also modify your formation during battle.
Formation Settings
You can set your party’s formation on the Formation menu screen. You can also modify your formation in battle by consuming TP.
Black Rose Valkyrie is due out for PlayStation 4 in Japan on June 30.
