System 3 to crowdfund Last Ninja HD in October

System 3 Software will launch a crowdfunding campaign for the the development of a new The Last Ninja game for high-definition platforms in October, the studio announced on Facebook.

The last entry in the 30-year-old franchise was The Last Ninja 3 in 1991. A fourth game was pitched in 1993, but never saw release. A PS2, Xbox, and GameCube game similar in style to Koei Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden series was unveiled at E3 2003, but never made its planned 2004 release.
