The first expansion to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is called Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward and will launch in spring 2015, Square Enix announced.
The expansion will move onward to Ishgard, with the Dragonsong War, a bloody thousand year war between Ishgard and Dravinia, as one of the key plot points. The Wyrmking versus Thordan and his Knights Twelve is highlighted as a second key plot point.
A fourth city-state, The Holy See of Ishgard, will be added, in addition to “massive” new areas, “challenging” new dungeons, new “high-end” raids, new gear and recipes, multiples new jobs, a new playable character race hinted to be the Viangaa, airships, and new primals.
The new city Ishgard is governed by an archbishop and four noble horses and is physically divided to separate the privileged from the common. Its fields include previously inaccessible regions beyond the Coerthas Highlands, such as Dravinia and other beast tribe-ruled domains, treacherous mountains, and floating land masses “above and beyond a sea of clouds.”
The level cap will be increased from level 50 to 60.
