Final Fantasy Explorers screenshots show Monster Lab, new fields, jobs, and more
Terra, Squall, and Lightning join upcoming 3DS RPG.Square Enix has released a new set of Final Fantasy Explorers screenshots.
Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll see:
- Monster Research Lab – Sometimes, monsters will drop something like a round soul. These are called “Soul Stones” and can be taken to the Monster Research Lab in Libertas and used to create companion monsters. The monsters you create can be added to the party. Even among monsters, there are attack types and defense types, so it’s best to organize your party with proper balance. Additionally, by synthesizing the Soul Stone with additional materials, it’s possible to increase your monster companion’s level.
- Two fields. The Aruha Wetlands is a poisonous swamp with little room to walk. Walking in the swamp will gradually decrease your HP. With monsters roaming everywhere, magic is esential in this danger zone. The Jamenil Mountain – The icy residence of the dragon king Bahamut. Along the way, you’ll come across powerful monsters.
- Two summons beasts. Dryas is a new summons beast found at the Aruha Wetlands. Her attacks can cause poison, darkness, and paralysis. Bahamut is known as the “Dragon King” and has appeared in the Final Fantasy series since the first game.
- Crystal Drive – Borrowing the power of Shiva and Ramuh is the “Crystal Drive.” Its activation conditions are unclear, but it is a powerful attack that deals damage in a vast range.
- New jobs. The Dark Knight uses a sickle as its main weapon. The swing of its attack is slow, but its power and range is great. The Geomancer, with its geomancy ability “Run Strike,” can increase its magical power with each attack landed. It must be built up before use, however. The Beastmaster is a tomahawk-wielding monster-controlling class with a special techinque that absorbs the enemy’s power when attacked. The Dragoon specializes in “Jumps,” and can strikes enemies from high into the sky with forceful hits.
- Final Fantasy series characters. Joining Cloud are Terra from Final Fantasy VI, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, and Squall from Final Fantasy VIII.
Final Fantasy Explorers is due out for 3DS in Japan on December 18.
