Here’s a new Q&A:
What is Far Cry 4?
Far Cry 4 is an open-world, first-person shooter that delivers the most expansive and immersive Far Cry experience ever. Players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles, and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape.
What will be available to players from a customization standpoint?
In Far Cry, players are encouraged to approach the open world and its many opportunities the best way they want to play. Stealthily inclined players or assault trained snipers will find the tools and weapons they need to achieve their goals. They will be able to customize their weapon attachments and skins as they see fit.
How is Far Cry 4 different from Far Cry 3?
With Far Cry 4, we’re really taking the opportunity to build on the Anecdote Factory. In doing so, we are bridging the gap between open world and story, bringing co-op to the open world and really focusing on the notion of player choice by putting the player in situations where his decisions will impact the outcome of his journey in Kyrat.
How is Far Cry 4 different from other FPS experiences?
Far Cry 4 is a massive leap forward from Far Cry 3, bringing all of the successes from the previous game, adding more vehicles, animals and toys to the open world along with the ability to invite your best friend along for the ride. We’re diving deeper into the concept of player choice. What future does each player see for Kyrat? Which faction within the Golden Path will each player choose?
Far Cry has always been known for its rich sandbox experience. Is this something we can look forward to in Far Cry 4?
Absolutely! By taking Far Cry 4 to the Himalayas, we bring a third dimension, the notion of verticality and variety when it comes to environmental elements, such as snow. This will make for some really interesting scenarios.
How would you describe the high level theme/tone of the game?
Life is about choices. So is Far Cry 4. Everything is woven together so if one piece is affected by an action or a choice, it will have an impact on all the others.
How did you come up with Kyrat as the next location?
Far Cry 3 was already a winning recipe but it was extremely important to iterate on it and bring more to the table. The choice was made based on gameplay opportunities – what would the location allow us to do and which animals do we want to play with? The elephant fantasy was definitely a driving force in that decision with developers wanting to ride elephants and weaponize them in the open world. The wing suit was already introduced in Far Cry 3 however there was still a lot of potential for its use that had yet to be explored. Kyrat will allow players to explore a new dimension.
How is Shangri-La relevant in the Far Cry 4 context?
With Far Cry, we always aim to create a living and breathing world with a rich history; Kyrat is no exception. Not only did the team create a country but also its history, its traditions, its culture and its mythology. Shangri-La is an opportunity to dig deeper into that folklore and explore the creation myth that ultimately, makes Kyrat what it is in Far Cry 4 today.
Does Shangri-La have an impact on the player progression?
By playing the legend of Shangri-La, the player will also unlock skills within the main skill tree.
Shangri-La is visually very different from the rest of the game. Is there anything else that is unique to that part of the story?
You will encounter a completely different set of mythical enemy AI with unexpected and surprising behavior. To take them on, you will have your ally and the Protector of Shangri-La by your side, the noble white tiger. He will come to the player’s defense if provoked or can be sent to attack nearby enemies. The Shangri-La bow, with the unique ability to momentary slow time, will also be at your disposal.
What technology is Far Cry 4 built on?
Far Cry 4 is leveraging Dunia, an engine that continues to evolve to support co-op in the open world, next gen quality graphics, customizable gameplay and improved environmental physics, for example.
Will there be multiplayer?
Yes, there will be an innovative adversarial multiplayer component in the game, as well as other experiences you’ll be able to play with others. We will detail all that at a later date.
Will there be platform-exclusive content?
If you purchase Far Cry 4, you will receive a set of ‘Keys to Kyrat’. Send t hese to any of your friends on PSN and invite them into your world. Capture outposts together, explore Kyrat, and gain experience and money, even if they don’t yet own the game.
Will there be Uplay benefits, perks, or exclusives?
We are still working out the specific details on UPlay integration and will have more details as we get closer to launch.
How are you taking advantage of next gen hardware and technology?
Far Cry is about beauty and creating a living world and next gen technology will allow us to bring more to that living world. Next gen technology allows us to populate that living world with a fidelity never before seen.
Will there be any companion gaming content?
We will have more details on this in the months to come. Stay tuned.
How big is the skill tree?
There are a total of 48 skills to be acquired throughout the campaign. These skills are split between 2 different and important trees. The Tiger Tree is about takedowns, weapons, stealth and physical skills.
The Elephant Tree is where you’ll acquire skills for healing, crafting and obtaining upgrades. Each one of these skills will have a deep impact on the player’s experience in Kyrat and add meaning to his journey.
How big is the Far Cry 4 world map?
The map is as big as the one in Far Cry 3 and filled with countless opportunities and challenges. Kyrat is a deeply reactive world with varied biomes and new surprising wildlife. It’s a living, breathing and changing world where stuff will happen, with or without you.
When is Far Cry 4 coming out?
November 18th, 2014 worldwide on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
