Frictional Games has released a new trailer for SOMA, its upcoming sci-fi horror game due out for PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015.
The new trailer, dubbed “Theta,” showcases a few in-game scenes, new voice work, and clues on what the game’s story will be about.
SOMA is currently a week away from reaching its alpha build, Frictional said in PlayStation Blog update. More than half of the full game is currently playable, which clocks in at around five hours. Frictional estimates the final game will end up being eight hours or so.
“SOMA doesn’t rely on a core gameplay loop – such as shooting baddies or jumping platforms – to create a sense of fun,” creative director Thomas Grip said. “Instead, you’ll take part in a wide range of activities; it’s impossible to narrow it down to one. You’ll search for notes, solve puzzles, hide from dangers, explore unsettling places, take part in strange events and sometimes just run away. All of these come together with the graphics and soundscape to create a larger whole.”
Over at the PlayStation Blog, you can read up on the team’s five goals for SOMA, which include creating the feeling of playing a narrative, a coherently crafted world, variegated gameplay, deep and disturbing themes, and a pervasive sense of horror.
