Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, announced this weekend, is a third-person action adventure game that goes beyond the upcoming movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, with over 40 playable characters, Activision announced.
The game is a follow-up to the June-due film, as well as to High Moon’s Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games. It follows the hunt for the Dark Spark, an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership. Players will be able to switch between Autobots and Decepticons during the single-player campaign, and gameplay features Cybertron series-like “nimble, fast-paced running-and-gunning combat” paired with vehicle traversal across open battlefields.
Escalation, a fan-favorite multiplayer mode that debuted in War For Cybertron, will also return. It is a wave-based, survival-style mode for up to four players online cooperatively. In Rise of the Dark Spark, it features new upgradable defense systems, recognizable adversaries, and an expanded roster of playable characters.
A new leveling system will transform both single and multiplayer into “one unified, persistent character development path.” Experience earned in any part of the game will unlock potent awards and loadout options, such as new characters, stronger weapons, special abilities, and other bonuses.
Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, and 3DS.
