Amazon acquires Double Helix Games
Part of "commitment to build innovate games."
Amazon has acquired Killer Instinct and Strider developer Double Helix Games, according to a TechCrunch report.
News of the deal, which was for both “talent and IP,” leaked through an invitation to a joint recruiting event from Amazon and Double Helix taking place in Los Angeles on February 13.
Amazon confirmed the deal to TechCrunch in a statement.
“Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovate games for customers,” the company said.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Amazon is rumored to be launching its own Android-powered video game console in the coming months for below $300 set to “compete directly with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo,” according to VG247 sources. The aquisition of Double Helix might just be one step in bringing more game development talent to its platform.
