Kirby Triple Deluxe adds Smash Bros. style game mode

In Kirby Triple Deluxe, Nintendo‘s upcoming Kirby side-scroller for 3DS, Kirby won’t just move from left to right. Stages stretch into the distance, allowing Kirby to go into the background, or enemies to fly in from the background.

Kirby also has a new “Hyper Nova” ability, which he can only use during certain points in each stage. When he activates it, his inhale ability is temporarily powered up, allowing him to suck up everything in his way, while opening up new passages. Kirby has over 20 types of abilities in Triple Deluxe, including four new abilities created especially for the game.

Alongside the main game mode, Kirby Triple Deluxe offers two special modes. “Kirby Fighters” is a Super Smash Bros.-style fighting mode where up to four Kirbys can battle each other, each using a single copy ability. “Dedede’s Drum Dash” lets players become King Dedede and pressing buttons in sync with music while jumping and collecting coins. This mode is playable to several familiar Kirby tunes.
