Luigi is following in his brother’s footsteps. On December 31, Nintendo and Arika will release Dr. Luigi on the Wii U eShop for $14.99.
Dr. Luigi offers a new mode where you attack viruses with L-shaped capsules, which are essentially two capsules formed in one. These capsules will fall with three of the same colors connected vertically, making it easy to wipe out viruses with a single pill.
“It’s harder to get a game over [in L-capsule mode], so I think even players less comfortable with how the game works will enjoy this mode,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said.
Increasing the difficulty, however, decreases the chances of capsules aligning the same vertical color as often.
In the original Dr. Mario, chaining combos in versus play allowed you to attack opponents by dropping capsules on their screen. In Dr. Luigi, however, this rule has been chaged. Successfully chaining combos changes your opponent’s next capsule color at the very last moment, making them rethink their next move at the last minute.
Dr. Luigi also features a mode that lets you play the traditional Dr. Mario, and features online player, as well.
You can also play by holding the Wii U GamePad vertically, using the touch screen to bring down capsules.
