Rumor: Gran Turismo 6 announced for PlayStation 3
New game engine, over 1,200 cars, 33 locations.Gran Turismo 6, the latest in Sony’s hit racing franchise, is coming to PlayStation 3 this holiday season, according to details from an alleged Sony press release published before embargo on website iAfrica.
Games website CVG claims the published information is “geniune,” but the game won’t be officially announced until a live event later today. Which is why we’re dubbing it a rumor for now.
Here’s what you can look forward to. Below is according to the press release, according to iAfrica.
The game will boast a new “compact game engine” promised to “improve operation and increase the flexibility” to expand the racer with download content. It will also feature smartphone and tablet connectivity for social and community features.
All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 are in Gran Turismo 6, but will add “notable additions” to its lineup of “historic cars, road cars, and the latest race cars,” bringing the total to 1,200 at launch, with more to come via download content.
Players wil be able to customize their cars with “several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels” for “almost all cars.”
One of seven new locations in the racer is UK’s Silverstone Circuit, making the total number of locations 33, with 71 different layouts, 19 of them being new. Additional tracks will, again, be made available post-launch via download content.
“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” said Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.”
