Sports game to make use of GamePad and MotionPlus controller. The next game in the Mario & Sonic Olympics series is in development for Wii U, Nintendo announced during today’s Nintendo Direct.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games offers high-definition graphics with more detailed characters and environments compared to previous games. It uses both the Wii MotionPlus controller and Wii U GamePad for gameplay.
In addition to returning events, such as skiing and snowboarding, new events like figure skating pairs and snowboarding slope-style, are being added.
Some of the events utilize the Wii U GamePad. For example, in curling, the player must draw a line directly on the ice on the GamePad to share their strategy with the other player. In the biathlon event, which consists of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, the player must switch between the Wii MotionPlus and GamePad depending on whether they’re skiing or shooting.
In addition to the Olympic games’ actual events, the game will also offer “Dream Events,” where stages are built in the world of Sonic and Mario, and you can do dynamic moves not possible in real life.
A mixed event, which combines sports such as skiing, snowboarding, skating, and bobsleigh in one race. In this event, you can experience a race not possible at the actual Olympics.
