Electronic Arts has announced Need for Speed Rivals, coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on November 19, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.
Developed by EA subsidiary Ghost Games and Criterion, the game is built on the Frostbite 3 engine and promises to “capture the adrenaline and intensity” of the rivalry between cops and racers in the open-road environment of Redview County.
You’ll play as either a cop or racer, each side with its own set of “high stakes challenges, rewards, and consequences.”
As a racer, you’ll “become infamous for taking risks behind the wheel” and “capture your most intense escapes on video.” You’ll get Speedpoints for evading cops, and can use them to unlock new cars and items.
As a cop, players will work together as part of a team in pursuit of racers, and rise in ranking as more racers are busted. As you achieve a higher ranking, you’ll earn new police cars and better pursuit technology.
The game has 11 upgradeable gadgets, including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops. Players can also customize their cars with paintjobs, custom liense plates, liveries decals and rims, and performance enhancements.
Players will be able to “seamlessly” transition from single to multiplayer with the game’s new AllDrive feature. Friends will be able to enter and exit races on-the-fly, EA promises. Autolog will also return, allowing players to compare stats, challenge friends, and share their accomplishments.
The Ferrari will also return, for the first time in Need for Speed in seven years, including the F12 Berlinetta.
Pre-orders for Rivals will include the ‘Ultimate Cop Pack’ download content, which grants players a “powerful collection of items,” including the Nissan GT-R Black Edition cop car, advanced pursuit technology, and a custom livery.
