Sony planning "full-blown launch," according to source.

Sony will hold a second PlayStation 4 reveal event later this month or early May, according to a source “familiar with the company’s marketing strategy.”

The event, according to the site, will be a “full-blown launch” of the system, and act as Sony’s final venue for PlayStation 4 discussion before the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.

PlayStation 4 was announced at a New York City press event on February 20 and is due for release this holiday. Sony has yet to pin an exact date or price on the system, or reveal its launch lineup.

A countermeasure for the unveiling of Microsoft’s next home console, I suppose. Well, if it means more times for Sony to present launch titles for the PS4, why not? I also wonder if we’ll get some status update for The Last Guardian

    • xavier axol

if sony release The Last Guardian on the ps4, then i would be the first one in line at the ps4 launch. i think that it’s a good idea for sony to keep the momentum going, not letting ms steal the thunder and keep it relevant. but they also have to make sure not to revealed everything before E3, it’s very important to keep a couple of titles unknown from the public. after all, the ps4 launch could be within 6 to 8 months away.

  • Fantasytales

Any ps4 news is good news to me right now.

  • Tenshiken

One conference to annoucne the console, another conferance for a ‘full-blown launch’, plus E3. This year’s going to be crazy.

    • adhesive

I hope it’s going to be like that, but I’m quite pessimistic. Nintendo had a pre-E3 conference last year, and all they did was show the exact same things(plus a tiny bit more) during E3.

  • Prodigy-X

    Jak 4 please

    • I’d agree, if it was more like the original Jak & Daxter. It was the only one I completed to 100 percent.

  • new_tradition

I think Sony’s really not gonna give Microsoft a chance this round

    • PS4 so far sounds amazing, but I’m not ready to discount MS yet, not until the unveil at least. Even if XBox720 ends having about the same specs as PS4 but offers full backwards compatible with 360 games it would be a blow to Sony.

  • Tetsu

Awesome. Sounds like a great idea to me. Microsoft will probably show all of their console. Sony needs to show us the rest.

  • Awesome! Can’t wait for this!!!

  • shogunknight

Nice, hope they answer some unfinished questions and/or reveal the console or more titles

  • Wasn’t expecting this, thought they’d wait for E3 but this is still cool

  • MrRobbyM

Wasn’t expecting this either. But smart move. Keep the momentum up!

  • Josh

Hopefully we get to see the console.

  • Solomon_Kano

Sony is really making sure there’s no room for competition this time out. They get everything else out of the way, and E3 can just be an onslaught of games. Exciting.

  • Definitely looking forward to this. Not just for the price alone, but because I really want to know if this console will be region free. I’m thinking it would be, but… In this day and age, I think we all can agree that being optimistic in the world of gaming news is a bit dangerous, heh.

  • Tac-Mex

I am excited but i really hope that the PS4 doesn’t block used games:

    • Gabriel Lage Pessoa

It wont, they already stated that

    • Bloodios

Have faith, my friend! Keep a strong faith and a firm belief and together, we will turn these hopes into reality!

  • Elvick

Hope it’s true, I can’t get enough of PS4 news.

  • Tetsu

Ok so someone obviously went through every single comment on here and down-voted them. Why you no likey nicey comment?

    • I have no idea why some people do this… =/

      • LordKaiser

Cuz they hate the PS4 for not playing PS3 games?

        • But PS4 does play PS3 games =3=

It’s just through a different streaming method instead of physical discs.

          • LordKaiser

Having to re-buy everything or subscribe to play is not ok.

            • Then don’t re-buy everything and just keep your PS3 plugged in too for when you want to play PS3 games? Surely you’re not one of these people that sell their previous console when a new one comes out, lol. Also, I’m fine with the subscription. I’m buying a PS4 to play PS4 games :3

If you think we’ve got it bad, just go look at the rumors floating around for the Next XBOX (the most recent article posted here in particular). I’d say our situation would look like a picnic compared to what’s happening with that.

              • LordKaiser

I see the “I don’t buy console A2 to play A1 games” far too often and I know many people like you say that sells all their previous consoles to move to the new and the other extreme that collects everything including old consoles and never get rid of them like The Angry Video Game Nerd for example.

I’m on the middle ground here and as a person who like physical games It would be good to sell my PS3 to buy the PS4 to cheapen the price even more and at the same time use the games I have on shelf. Console occupy space and it would be easier to switch between games than between consoles. Not everyone go to the over used fallacious quote of ” I buy Console A2 to play A2 games and not A1″ the fact you do don’t mean everyone does cuz I bought my PS3 to play PS2 and PS1 games. (That PS3 went YLOD and I’m lucky that my PC run PS2 games, I will not have the same luck with PS3.)

About the next Xbox threads. Do you find weird that most of the posts against it don’t have neg votes?

                • Just give it a bit of time. If one of the peeps that likes to down vote every comment feels like it, the down votes will begin. It’s just so silly in my opinion.

I understand the points you are making. My point is, I don’t think the people that just down vote everything are trying to make a point at all. It’s either an attempt at trolling, someone is really bored, wants to get someone else pissed off, etc.

Sure, not always, but I think the majority of the time this is the case.

            • I hope it doesn’t work that way. With that said, I’m not sure how the lack of true backwards compatibility has anything to do with most of the comments in this thread. Some of them are focused on specific games they would like announced, comments, the competition, and last is the rumor itself/e3.

I understand, but I think trying to compare all of that is a bit of a reach. My response was focused on some people down voting every comment in almost every thread on Gematsu. Not just this thread, or Sony threads, or Microsoft threads, etc. I don’t understand why some people do that.

              • LordKaiser

Maybe they’re fed up with how DLC and how game releases where handled this current gen and has 0 hope for next gen or a reason to buy Next gen consoles on release. Lack of compatibility cement this feelings even more. TBH I don’t see the same level of optimism as when current consoles where launched and I doubt the negs come from Microsoft fans.

  • PrinceHeir

    new naughty dog game please!!!!!

    • Tetsu

      Crash Bandicoot 4~

      • MrRobbyM

I’m afraid Crashy B is a long gone franchise. I’m hoping for a R&C reboot. The series really needs it.

        • Solomon_Kano

To this day I haven’t played A Crack in Time, but what’s wrong with R&C?

          • MrRobbyM

To me the recent games just haven’t been as great as they used to be. Not bad but not what they used to be. I haven’t played a good portion of A Crack In Time and 2 or 3 of the original series, meaning the games before the Future trilogy.

Call me nostalgic, it might just be that clouding my judement, but the first 3 and especially Up Your Arsenal are among my favorite PS2 games.

            • Solomon_Kano

Are you talking gameplay-wise or story-wise?

      • Solomon_Kano

        Ask Activision.

        • MrRobbyM

          *shivers and cries*

  • Jaylesse

Not giving ground this upcoming gen. Go Sony! :D

  • If this does happen, I hope we have a good turn out in the comments section again. The PS4 reveal event thread ended up having tons of comments. It sorta turned into a live comment blog thing, which is pretty cool, it wasn’t planned or anything. (267 comments is pretty awesome!)

My initial plan was to just post what I was watching at random, thankfully, it turned into way more than that. =)

Let’s try to make that a trend with big events everyone! =)

  • Elvick

Sidenote, they better keep Square Enix away from this thing.

    • Sevyne

But we need more announcements that there will be more announcements coming soon. So please be excited.

  • DietSoap

Very aggressive, I like this Sony. Having had everything but a PS3 last gen including the DS and PSP, it looks like they’ve all but assuredly secured my purchase this time around with how nice the PS3 was looking at the end of the gen, and how petered out in support my 360 and Wii had become.

  • That’s early… I was thinking about E3 and they don’t plan on announcing it at there like what the previous hardware reveals did?

  • Kurisu Makise

The excitement in the air, next gen feels pretty good so far. If this pans out, I hope to see everyone commenting during the event also. Just makes the wait for E3 even harder this year.

  • Ace

It’s interesting to note that people say that this console cycle has gone on too long… In reality, it’s gone on 8-12 months longer than a normal console cycle. I suppose it just feels long…?
