Enter the new randomly-generated dungeon "Tower of Yggdrasil."

The latest issue of Famitsu revealed Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, an update to last year’s Ragnarok Odyssey, for PS Vita and PlayStation 3. Among a new episode set after the game’s ending, and all the download quests from the original game, the game will also feature a host of new elements. Find these additions detailed below.

  • Composed by Kuma Tanioka

  • Niizuegg (ニーズヘッグ): A black dragon. In addition to biting and scratch attacks, it can also breath strongly.

  • ACE Skill.
  • There are ACE skills per class now. Skills include attacks, movement, and recovery.
  • In addition to button combinations for invoking a skill, there are also touch commands.
  • Skills per class are different, and it appears there are a range of ways to customize them.

  • Six classes are being carried over from the original game, but the illustrations have been redone.

  • “Tower of Yggdrasil”: A randomly generated dungeon with a layered structure. You’ll need a specific item to get in. The further you go, the more powerful weapons and cards you can acquire. You can take breaks every five levels. Multiplayer is also possible.

  • “Harmonasu Weapon”: Using the right order, you can level up your weapon ability. Depending on how you level up, the shape of the weapon will also change.
  • There are new items, like clothes and accessories, based on the new monsters. It appears you’ll be able to change their color.
  • New cards have been added.

  • A “Mercenary Helper” system has been added.
  • A “Mercenary Encyclopedia” with weapon and monster data, and a combat record showing play data, has been added.
  • “Daily Quests”: GungHo planning to offer a different quest every day.

  • The first is really fun, I hope I can port my save data

Is that all? Doesn’t seem like there is enough added content here to justify a re-release. It’s just a cheap ass way to re-sell the game….

    • Akimitsu

Yeah, I can see the thing with rereleasing it on Vita, but I’m more than happy to see it being ported to the PS3.

  • Gabriel Lage Pessoa

I just wanted them to fix the damn stiff animations.

  • almostautumn

Err, none of this sounds like anything more than DLC that could just be put in a bundle and at premium price ($15).

PS3 version is dope, but even then— seems kind of ridiculous to call an update such as this a “different” game. Really hope this update is available as a DLC for those who already bought Ragnarok, or otherwise I’m not touching a damn thing from these guys until I’m sure their released product is their final product.

This terrible “business model” works for Capcom… so Gungho probably thinks it can get away with it too. For over a year since its release this update is incredibly mediocre.

      • Sevyne

Gungho would be crazy to think they could get away with it too. RO doesn’t even come close to a fraction of MH sales and in turn doesn’t have the masses of rabid fans of a series to eat up every version of the same game over and over so that they may line their pockets.

As long as they make enough profit that’s all that probably matters. Sure they want to sell at Capcom levels but let’s be realistic here.

This news concern more to the PS3 users like myself. If you got a Vita and the old version, you can skip this if you want. Assuming it will be released in the west.
