Sega and Disney Interactive Studios are developing a high-definition remake of the Mega Drive / Genesis side-scrolling 1990 classic Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse for release on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, and PC this summer.
The game, in development at Sega Studios Australia, will be “completely rebuilt from the ground up,” and offer “stunning visuals” and “new gameplay mechanics.” The original storyline will stay in tact as players help Mickey save Minnie from the evil witch Mizrabel.
“The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a Sega classic,” said Chris Olson, vice president of Digital Business at Sega of America. “Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation. Mickey is back and he looks fantastic.”
