Soul Sacrifice and PS Vita top the charts.

This week’s Media Create sales figures are in. PlayStation Vita hardware sales continue to be strong following the platform’s price drop late last month. At 63,581 sales, he handheld is the top-selling console again this week, topping its sales last week by 1,000.

At over 110,000 sales, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F for PlayStation 3 is the top-selling game software. And the standard edition of Soul Sacrifice for PlayStation Vita, at 92,000 sales, is second. But, if we combine the 22,000 sales of the Soul Sacrifice Double Pack, the tenth best-selling game this week, Soul Sacrifice has then sold over 114,000 copies in its first week.

  • Nicely done, Vita and SS. For a newcomer that’s quite steady.

    • The price drop and games like Soul Sacrifice so shortly after are just the boost PS Vita needed, I think.

      • Completely agree. And what makes it even more impressive is that it is a new IP on a handheld.

A bit disappointed to see ToH R not sell as much though.

  • ShinAsura(新阿修羅)

I’m curious if the Vita will maintain it’s number one spot. People buy hardware for games normally, I think this just may be a coincidence due to releases, we’ll see

    • almostautumn

Dunno. There is a pretty solid list of games for the system that people have probably desired for a while now (Gravity Rush, Persona 4, Tales: Innocence, etc:) and have just not been able to fetch them though for the hardware cost. Now that the price is dropped, I see no reason why hardware sales should falter, particularly for the used market and that the established titles can be had much cheaper now. If anything, the upcoming releases are just icing for people jumping now.

  • Pang Chee Jie

Shouldn’t it be 136k copies of SS sold? There is a reason it’s called a double pack ya know.

    • uhawww

I think Media Create splits the SKUs
Famitsu may have them all smashed together.

      • Pang Chee Jie

I dont recall famitsu ever supplying sales information.

        • uhawww

They have a site online that posts their counts.

        • I’ve always been more of a Media Create person, but here:

          • Pang Chee Jie

Thanks for the info both of you. Anyway, did mediacrate or famitsu state that they doubled the sales count of the double pack or did they just tracked how many packs were sold?

            • uhawww

They track the SKU only, so it will only add the number of packs, rather than the number of raw copies of the game.

          • GaySkull

i came to Gematsu from Siliconera because of this site’s cleanliness, relevance, quality and civilized image but i see a negative stain called Stealth.

I really don’t get it why some people doesn’t want a win win situation. they want a win -lose or lose-win

    • Noctis_nox

Agree! it’s 136K copies sold. Sony will count the double pack as 44K copies sold.
And obviously M-Create won’t say it sold 44K because it will be misleading. Everyone will think it sold 88K.
So in reality there’s 136K copies of SS game in Japan.

  • Vita has 1 week in the sun until luigis mansion is out next week

    • Gabriel Lage Pessoa

Doubt it, Luigi’s mansion on the GC was poorly recieved back in the day, even though I really enjoyed it.

      • It sold over a million copies. And the week after, a srw hits 3ds.

So vita will slide back down soon

        • I dont understand how the 3DS selling well will cause the Vita to “slide back down”.

Nintendo 1st parties have always sold well. Their consoles have always depended on that. I’m sure this will be no exception even though the game hasn’t received great reviews in Japan.

As for the Vita, I wouldn’t dismiss it so easily without taking a look at the market first. It has some great titles (One Piece, Atelier and others) lined up for release for all the rest of this month.

And let’s not mention the Wii U. A few third parties have already dismissed the system. Sad but true. I hope Nintendo starts supporting it as much as it has the 3DS.

          • Don’t mind them. Nothing more pathetic than butt hurt fans wanting a good console to fail. They post this stupid crap all the time then wonder why ppl give the WIIU soo much sh!t. I seriously don’t get the logic of some of these fan boys, especially the whole ‘3ds games are coming so that means that vita sales will slide’ it doesn’t. But whatever, still doesn’t help the WIIU which only sold 80,000 units last month and is losing third party support very quickly.

            • I know right?

I kind of get the rivalry between console owners, since you can only have so many boxes under your TV. And even then, each is unique. But rivalry between handhelds? Handhelds are not phones. You can own both without conflict. In fact, you’d be missing a lot of cool games of you owned just a 3DS or just a Vita.

But anyway, haters will always hate…

              • Exactly. Fortunately I have both so it doesn’t really bother me. I don’t see what’s wrong with having the best of both tbh. All this rivarly crap is petty as you just lose out on good games and comments like that seriously make me laugh. Ppl seem to be forgetting that the vita dieing is a very bad thing for the handheld eco system as a whole.

                • vita will slide to 10k next week

                  • Sevyne

Why don’t you “Slide” your ass out of here?

                    • clever

                    • I wish you could double vote a comment. Brilliant!

                    • Saying the vita’s sales streak is numbered for very good and factual reasons, doesnt make anyone a jackass.

                  • And your insane, grow up.

                    • kerriganmarois

I think it’s funny that all these vita fans are so fired up that for one week, other people actually bought the console. The vita is super rad hardware, but it doesn’t have very many good games. Don’t get mad at stealth for saying the vita’s sales will stabilize after a price cut. Which btw, is going to happen because thats what happens with sales.

              • Haku_Luvs_You

You can only have so many boxes under your TV?? Since when?

                • For many people shelf space is limited, HDMI ports are numbered, the time you can spend in front of your TV can be quite limited as well (especially if you have kids) and a lot of people nowadays have other boxes hooked up to their TVs (Tivo, Roku, Bluray players and such).

I’m not saying you can’t have two or more consoles, its just that having two handhelds comes with far less friction.

          • because thats what happens, get a clue

            • Wow, everything is so clear now. Thanks for your informed, researched, deep and insightful input.

See you in the comments next week, when the Vita easily exceeds the 10k mark in sales.

        • That doesn’t mean anything btw. That’s purely ur own speculation so pls don’t try to pass it off as fact.
          Meanwhile over at the WIIU…..

    • zweii

We know the result of that until 2 weeks from now.

  • Potionzmaster

Whaaat, I didn’t expect the Vita to remain number one, let alone surpass last week’s sales o_0

  • Nerroth

Is this the first time that the PS Vita has outsold the combined total of both 3DS models in the same week?

    • yes but when the 3ds had its price cut, it sold 200k, then slid to its position

If vita is at 60k now, then when it slides it will go back to normal

      • jujubee88

Are you the same “stealth” from destructoid? O.o

        • I am the stealth of mystery

          • jujubee88

            You’re him, aren’t you. =.=

..This is why people didn’t like you there!!

            • They like me just fine there thanks! if you dont like my opinion. Valid. But thats all it is

              • If your as much of a jackass over there as you are here I seriously doubt.

                • Saying the vita’s sales streak is numbered for very good and factual reasons, doesnt make anyone a jackass

  • Everybody is talking about the Vita and its great run. But I barely see mentions of the WiiU, which keeps being outsold by every relevant console in Japan for weeks in a row. Nintendo really needs to get their act together on that.

  • o/ Vita! YES!!!!! o/

    • jujubee88

^ I was wondering when someone would post this meme. Hehe. So fun. ^.^

  • almostautumn

Very nice to see the Vita finally doing well, and to actually see that the awesome games for it are getting the appropriate sales too.

*Surprised to see Macross 30 still at so low a number, though. Isn’t that, like, THE mech series, next to Evangelion? I thought it’d be an absolute rocket in terms of sales?

    • Joseph Locke

unlike elsewhere, in Japan you first couple weeks of sales are extremely high and then it forever sells low since everyone that wants it gets it right away.

  • Noctis_nox

    Vita>3DS at last.
Great sales for vita totally unexpected and crush the normal prediction of many. Dayum!

  • z_merquise

MG Rising sold 300k copies in first week and 60k the 2nd week. Why is the total at 111,461?

Then I noticed it had the same exact numbers next with Senran Kagura.

    Can this be corrected?

    • Bloodios

I just checked The correct figures should be:12.  [PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (Konami, 02/21/13) – 17,833 (386,908)

      • Mah bad, yo. Fixed.

        • Bloodios

Hey, no prob. I understand that mistakes happen every now and then when you’re running a gaming news site, especially when you trying to stay up-to-date with these gushing torrents of fresh scoops.

  • OlimacFTW

Good sales for Vita, and not bad for 3DS too. Wii U is struggling, and i expected for Tales of Hearts R to do better, only 55K for a Tales game is not a good signal.

  • Adol Christian

Like I said before. I really really hope its not temporary. I want to see the Vita selling like this every week :)

    • GaySkull

      no worries
      people have seen its value

  • Hikaru Lighthalzen

wow….. , senran kagura have the same power as MGS

  • Glad to see the vita picking up. Hopefully it stays this way so it gets more third party support meaning more games. Can’t wait for One Piece next week though, that and SK should keep me busy until SS comes out in the west

  • Haku_Luvs_You

Congrats to another great Vita week. I’m interested to see how SS will keep though. I mean Kagura had a terrific opening week and sold under 20k this week. Wonder if Sacrifice will do the same. Vita needs a game that can stick in this list for many consecutive weeks. I mean look at Animal Crossing it’s still up there.

  • MrKappa

I’m surprised at how weak Tales of Hearts did. Doesn’t look like it will reach more than 80k.

  • Elvick

What were the first week sales of Tales of Innocence R for comparison?

    • Sevyne

54,853 so almost the same. Not a good sign considering a lot more Vitas are in the wild now. Kind of unfortunate too. It looks really good.

  • PrinceHeir

Hang on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus!!

Phantasy Star Online 2 and Shining Ark needs some more help!!

Macross 30: Ginga o Tsunagu Utagoe argh why the hell didn’t they include the 30th anniversary movie??

  • Caribbean Brony

Soul Sacrifice really did help in pushing Vita sales. Amazing stuff.
