Capcom has partnered with WayForward Technologies to develop DuckTales Remastered, a remake of its 1989 NES 2D platformer, for release on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, and the Wii U eShop this summer.

The remake boasts hand-drawn sprites, a 3D world, and authentic Disney voice actors. The original game’s 8-bit songs will be remastered by WayForward, and new elements including a tutorial, Scrooge’s Money Bin to swim in, and the Duckburg museum to track your progress, are also being added.

What about Yo Noid! Capcom!? What about Yo Noid!?

  • Rafael Martines

Sometimes Capcom do horrible things (Dark Void, no Japanese audio in Sengoku Basara localization) but this time… Dammn it! Right in my childhood!

    • Stephanie Laberis

Capcom nothing, you can thank WayForward for that gorgeous animation!

I so wish they’ll make a TaleSpin game afterwards :)

What an awesome surprise! A few of my friends came out of the woodwork today to announce that they were working on this game for like the last year and I was just like “What…. wait, you’re making pure magic and didn’t share with me?!” Really high hopes for this, I loved the visual style of A Boy and his Blob for wii but thought the gameplay was weak. With WayForward’s art team and Capcom’s level design, this could be a total knockout!

I wanna cry. THIS is game of the year.

  • ryougazell

Holy crap! I still own the Nes cartridge. Want!!

  • AdamBoy64

    Wow. This is exciting stuff.

So, will be interesting to see how WayForward go with remastering the music.
In particular, interested to see how they go with the theme from the Moon level.

It’ll be hard to imagine them doing it justice – but gotta give them a chance I suppose.

  • PrinceHeir

don’t like the 3D backgrounds tbh.

prefer sprites all the way out

  • Elvick

Capcom proving what I’ve said all along… they’re done with Vita.

I mean, there’s no reason this should not be on Vita too. In fact, it’d be amazing on Vita… *sigh*

I despise the 3D backgrounds though. Fugly.

  • Tetsu

Fuck Yeah! WayForward is a blessing. Thaaaankyou!

  • Archvile78

They better masterfully remake the Moon theme.

  • This is amazing.

Though it should be on PS Vita…

  • s2n08

    I’ve…gotta have it.

  • Warboss Aohd

Life iz like a Hurricane, here in, Duckburg!

ah Mork, ain’t heard dat song in yearz……bout time dose humiez at Capcom actually did somefin’ right.

  • ddsfan2

Looks really good, although I have a certain nostalgic attachment to the NES version, particularly the sound effects and music.

Seems puzzling that they aren’t releasing a Vita version though, since I’d suspect that this game runs in (approximately close to) the Vita’s resolution.
