Next Assassin's Creed to star pirate assassin?

A screenshot, poster, and details surrounding the next Assassin’s Creed, rumored to be titled Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, have supposedly leaked online.

The poster, leaked by a Kotaku tipster, will go on display at retailers on Monday, March 4, according to the source.

Examiner claims to have the first screenshot (above) and details. It is said to star Edward Kenway, a known Privateer and the father of Haytham Kenway from Assassin’s Creed III, and is set in the Carribean on islands including Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. It’s currently running on current generation hardware, but is planned for next-gen as well, according to the report.

Earlier this month, a Reddit user claimed to have seen an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on an airplane, while a woman sitting in the row ahead of him was making edits to her Powerpoint presentation.

Ubisoft is expected to reveal the next Assassin’s Creed tomorrow.

Again, not a big jump historically. :-/
    Or setting-wise.

  • shogunknight

    Are those samurais? Hohooo…..

    • Solomon_Kano

      No, just pirates.

  • Haki

Calling it fake. The art is more comic-ish then the normal art style.

    • rockman29

It seems real, there are other promo materials.

  • Potionzmaster

I was hoping for something more different in time period and setting, but I liked Haytham (probably the most of the entire AC3 cast), so hey, why not? :)

  • DarthBrian

I haven’t even finished the first one yet.

    • Ritsujun

      AC1 was boring as hell.
      AC2 and AC:B were awesome.
      AC:R sucked.

  • THey never used Comic art for their posters. I really really hope this ones a fake. That would be a huge disappointment

    • Solomon_Kano

Definitely real. Todd McFarlane’s signature is on the art.

      • Who’s that? And where? Please just let it be a Comic or something like that….

        • Solomon_Kano

Todd McFarlane is a comic book artist (and writer) noted for creating the Spawn character. More recently, he was responsible for the art direction of Kingdoms of Amalur.

This is a comic-styled poster, but this is definitely for the next game. The AC comics are set in Russia.

Also: his signature can be seen under the assassin’s leg.

        • KingNigma

He also created Necrid from Soul Calibur II.

  • Raiyu

Aren’t too many games that make use of the pirate theme.

  • The Edward Kenway part of the rumor makes me think it’s legit.

  • No thank you, try something with a female assassin :-)

    • Solomon_Kano

      • Didn’t like it haha. Was too much like AC3, Much prefer if we could see an Eve descendent in a main title for the next gen :)

        • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Well, maybe one day. For some reason I get the feeling Ubi is scared to give us a female protag on consoles though.

  • Aldridge517

Every new Assassin’s Creed I feel like I want to play it but I never do. Just waiting for the right one I guess.

  • AnimusVox

    Oh hurray….a prequel.

  • Prodigy-X

Can’t wait to see it tomorrow and hopefully a new AC PS Vita Exclusive.

  • Ragiacrus

cool, hope the new hero or heroine gets their own ship.. would be cool to have an assassin hideout again too like in brotherhood

  • Ubisoft almost confirmed it via Facebook : Our Community seems oddly attracted to Pirates lately… Some are even going as far as changing their Facebook language setting to PIRATE!

  • Aiddon

huh, that might be interesting. I can definitely get down with more pirates in games

this is just more of the same of Assassins Creed 3. I want a game with a different time period, a different assassin with no connections, and in a different setting environment. Maybe a game in the old Tokyo japan era, and have a Samurai and Ninja game. I mean come on, a “Ninja Assassin” is what were all waiting for lol.

    • Raiyu

A ninja assassin has been done many times over. I’d rather they not do ninjas at all.

    • Aldridge517

I agree. There aren’t nearly enough open world ninja assassin games. Ubisoft should take the series to feudal Japan.

  • Who cares, we’ll get an announcement at some point of it. We know there’s one in development.

  • So they are going pirates of the Caribbean storyline now?

  • On the back of the above poster is a map according to Kotaku.

  • On the back of the above poster is a map according to Kotaku.

    • I liked the naval battles and such, but I would like to go back to historic city and jumping from random buildings like in Italy :-)

      • I miss that time setting as well. I also miss Ezio.

        • At least I’m not the only one :) Seems some people didn’t like Ezio as much as most of us. Its a shame they never did a game with his son or Daughter as the main Protagonist! I guess there was no story for them…

  • Simmsville

I wonder how this one would start.[SPOILERS]
Desmond pretty much has to be alive now (or seriously crippled) so maybe they shove him in the Animus to keep him alive, taking him to Edward Kenway’s lifetime to find out more about Juno and how to stop her?

  • I doubt they’ll ever do Ninja, if only because it would be too expected and they’re probably annoyed by everyone wanting it.
