"We expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May, at least."

PlayStation 4 concept by Joseph Dumary.

Sony Home Entertainment vice president Hiroshi Sakamoto has teased a PlayStation 4 announcement for May or June this year.

Asked by Chile news site El Mercurio On-Line at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas whether the PlayStation manufacturer is planning a new console announcement this year, Sakamoto said:

“That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony Playstation are getting ready. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, scheduled for June.

“This announcement can be by then, or even before then, in May.”

Asked if it would be a “major announcement” or “complementary” one, Sakamoto responded: “Probably the first. On that date, we expect to deliver great news, but we must wait until May, at least.”

Thanks, NeoGAF.

    It begins.

  • Prodigy-X

Sony PlayStation better come hard to the party at E3 then.

    • Dean Winchester

Yeah really. They’ve been showing up the last few years with zero new exclusive IP’s and instead focused on apps and their motion camera periphreal.

      Oh wait.

      • Prodigy-X

Guess your talking about Microsoft then. Yeah Microsoft needs to come hard to. Their last good E3 was E3 2008 then that was it. Microsoft better not come out talking about apps, services, multiplats, Kinect, and other boring stuff. I want to see new ips for their next Xbox and Xbox tablet.

    • SONY will and I see PS4 being a Huge Top Contender in the Next Gen. like the PS2 was. It’ll have full backwards compatibility, and be easy to develop for.

  • Potionzmaster

Next-gen is almost here, guys :D

    • Nightmesh

Next-gen is already here. Little thing called the WiiU?

      • JBC

I think he wanna said: “Current-gen is almost here, guys”. Makes more sense.

And Wii U is already old-gen for me; the true current-gen is on pc.

      • AdamBoy64

Ah yes. Next-Gen will continue then, I guess.

      • DarthNemesis

Um the Wii U is a current gen console.

        • Nightmesh

Next Gen means next generation. If your saying the WiiU isn’t a next generation console then you really don’t know what that term means.

          • Dean Winchester

It’s Nintendo’s next gen console but by all means it is barely current gen in comparing its game content.

            Keep arguing semantics though.

            • Nightmesh

Going by your statement then the Wii shouldn’t have been in the same generation as PS3/Xbox360 since it wasn’t up to pare with them because of “game content”. Its been PS2/Xbox/GC then PS3/Xbox360/Wii and its going to be PS4/Xbox*somenumbers*/WiiU. Its the next generation. Deal with it.

              • Dean Winchester

you are correct. The Wii was not “next gen” when it released in 2006.
It was on par with PS2 and GC.

Your argument that it is next gen is simply based on when it was released and if thats the case then your argument applies to this next statement.
“the NeoGeo X Gold which released in NA 12/18/12 is a next gen handheld”.

See how dumb that is to ignore the tech thats on the inside and the games library on the platform?

                • Nightmesh

And your point is that because it didn’t blow you away with graphics its not next gen. You also point out the tech inside and the launch games. With that kind of logic I could say my vita is the same as just like a N-Gage when it was first launched. Its got great hardware but since it has no games in its library I’m interested in its just like an N-Gage.

              • Budgiecat

Dont be stupid. Is NeoGeo X Gold next gen just because it came out 2012? You idiot

                • Haku_Luvs_You

Lol not once did he say it had to do with the year it was released.

            • Haku_Luvs_You

Lol, still Next Gen dude. I know it’s complicated to wrap your head around, especially when you couldn’t even understand that a piece of plastic wasn’t necessary to play Kid Icarus.

              • Dean Winchester

again I ask you, if it wasnt necessary, why did Nintendo pack that plastic 3DS stand into every single copy of Kid Icarus?
Just b/c you “chose” not to use it to play Kid Icarus doesnt negate the fact that Nintendo intended for you to use it to get the most optimal experience with the game.

Its not necessary for me to wear bowling shoes at my local bowling alley but it does improve the experience which is why they hand every person a pair of bowling shoes that rents some lane time.

I wouldnt expect someone who holds internet grudges for months on end to be able to wrap their head around that concept though.
Keep fighting Ninty’s good fight bud. Wouldnt want anyone to insult the honor of your precious and get away with it!

                • Haku_Luvs_You

Clearly you don’t get out much. Go to any bowling alley anywhere and they won’t let you on without bowling shoes. It’s a rule to wear them. Trust me if I could wear normal shoes to a bowling alley I would, but then they wouldn’t let me bowl.

But since we want to open old wounds here lets see. Your original quote of Kid Icarus is “oh a kid icarus that requires another add on to be playable.” You don’t say optimal experience, you say required. Required as in it’s necessary. So again I say, no it is not necessary.

The only reason I’m arguing is because of idiots like you. I honestly have no reason to fight Ninty’s fight. They don’t pay me, I get nothing in return. But I do want to defend video games. I happen to like them. And I hate it when people act like they’re superior beings because they bought a playstation. Get over yourself dude. WiiU is a next gen system. Talk about the PS4 all you like , but when you bring nothing to the table besides bashing of the WiiU (or any system for that matter) you start to piss people off. And don’t give me that “oh but I own one.” So what, it’s clear you don’t like it, so shut up about it.

                  • Dean Winchester

Getting pissed off over a random stranger’s differing opinion about a piece of plastic and yet I’m the one who “doesnt get out much”?

                    LoL! Touche’

Now to address your pathetic stance; I am very much allowed to dislike the Wii-U and vocalize it last I checked. Unless of course the liberals have succeeded in suppressing our freedom of speech?

That said….I have said on multiple occasions how much I enjoy the Wii-U.
Mario and Sonic Racing have occupied many hours of family fun for us since Nov. 18th.
Rayman Legends is amazing. Got it preordered.

All this doesnt change the fact that the Wii-U is the system that should have came out Nov 18, 2006.
Instead Ninty released a GameCube with Gimmicky motion controls.
The Wii-U is refreshing b/c Ninty finally joined the high def generation but not one single launch title does anything that a PS3 or 360 cant already do and in many cases can do better.
Beyond the barely there almost nonexistent tablet controls for the 3rd party multiplats that is.
The first party Ninty tablet controls are of course done better but again in order to cut cost, Ninty has attached a newish control gimmick onto current gen Hardware and released it as “next gen”.
When the PS4 and 720 come out will they be NextNext gen?

If this pisses you off then perhaps you should point your anger at Nintendo for releasing current gen hardware 7 years into this generation?

I love games too which is why I own close to 30 systems and 700+ games.
Please calm yourself when whiteknighting for plastic toys.

                    • Haku_Luvs_You

Aright I’ll drop the Kid Icarus cause I know I’m right. Also at least I know the basic rules for a bowling alley. They don’t put up shoe charges as a suggestion, they are required to play. Even if I have a pathetic stance as you claim, I at least understand basic concepts of society. Pro tip! That seat belt in your car isn’t just for looks!

That aside you are far from a gaming fan. Fans are people who enjoy games. People like you are called graphic and power whores. You don’t care about anything else. You can’t saying anything positive only that “oh this game has higher tech.” or “oh man this was so last gen.” It’s gaming. If you want it for looks, might I point you in the direction of Miss America Beauty Pageant. So I have no reason to believe that you a fan by any means. Fans play games for story, or because they’re fun to play. Honestly this has nothing to do with the toy anymore. It has to do with how you trash Nintendo and Microsoft like Sony is paying you for it. I have yet to see an opinion on the PS4, yet you talked about DMC. Honestly it’s your sheer stupidity that is starting to piss me off.

                    • Dean Winchester

calm down stallion. As for your assessment of me…….if I am a graphic whore please explain why at least 550 of my 700+ game collection are games ranging from Atari to Ps2/xbox/gc?
Also do explain why I am currently playing Chrono Trigger (SNES version) on my Kindle Fire tablet every night before going to bed.

Must be that the Snesoid emulator upres’ the graphics and tricks me into believing its HD!

                      Try again champ.
Amazing how someone so overly cocksure that he is always right can be so utterly wrong.

And before you try to call me out for playing a Chrino Trigger Rom….Ive still got my original Snes cart CIB.
Now please take an anger management course Mr. Right.

                    • Haku_Luvs_You

Lol. Good job? You go learn what the word necessary means. You’re words hold no meaning when you don’t understand basic words in the English language. Tell you what go look up that word, and then go learn the meaning of rules in public place (go play bowling without buying shoes) Honestly you know so little I’m starting to question all you say, so at this point I don’t believe a word you say. And thanks I am mister right :D Also I’m very happy with my life, so I don’t really need anger management, but thanks for your concern :) Alright now please stop responding. Your clearly think you’re the best and everyone around you is dirt. It’s like talking to a brick wall, and you change your stories constantly (i.e WiiU is soo not even up to PS3 standards! Oh man I’m not big on graphics I play Chrono Trigger!). I’ll be the bigger man and step away.

                    • Haku_Luvs_You

But you know what. You are right, I am getting mad at someone on the internet. The internet is full of idiots, so I’m going to drop it. As for my thoughts on PS4. I want them to bring more Japanese games to it. I hope they don’t use that patent where you can’t have used games. I want Xbox live type online, but free on PSN and I want backwards capability so I can continue to tackle my massive PS3 backlog.

            • ShinAsura

The WiiU will struggle to keep its fanbase outside the core fans.

They may turn into SEGA and sell off their IPs

      • AdamBoy64

People can downvote you all they like – doesn’t change the truth that the Wii U is an 8th generation console, and the PS3, 360 and Wii are 7th generation consoles.

        • Dean Winchester

Another nugget of truth: the Wii-U chugs when running a year and a half old 7th gen game.
          Batman Arkham City says hello.

          • Nightmesh

And the first version of the PlayStation 3 didn’t make a single sound playing its own launch games?

            • Dean Winchester

i dont understand your verbage here. Sorry I dont speak in “the middle of random thoughts that have no correlation to the discussion at hand”.

              • Nightmesh

You complain about WiiU making noise. I ask you if the first release version of the ps3 didn’t sound like a jet engine ready to take off.

                • Dean Winchester

Sorry but thats not what chugs means.
The Wii-U chugs with Batman ACAE as in, it slows down and takes a performance hit. The Wii-U visuals arent quite up to par with the PS3 version or 360 version and yet it still has slowdown issues.
To andwer your question, NOPE. My launch 60GB phatty has been quiet as a church mouse since Nov 2006. The Wii-U is very quiet as well. The only system that sounds like its gearing up on the tarmac is the 360 which is why I dont play games on my 5th one. The slim is quieter than the original but thats like saying a rabbit turds are easier to clean than cat turds. End of the day youre still cleaning up crap.

          • AdamBoy64

Hmm. If that’s the case, remind me to be careful of anything from Rocksteady then.

        • MrRobbyM

Nintendo was smart to release it when they did. But “next-gen” can mean different things. The next big technological leap in consoles or just a number. For a lot of people, the Wii U is just a new Nintendo console, not really “next-gen”.

I believe it’s next gen, because that’s the real definition. But in no way is the Wii U pushing any boundaries. It’s a much better improvement than when the Wii was released. The Wii was very outdated when it was released. But at least the Wii U is about on par with the other consoles and has a few functions to really differentiate itself.

      • Dean Winchester

        I have the Wii-U.
Bought it on launch day as I do every system wherher console or handheld.

If the Wii-U is next gen than so is my NeoGeo X Gold.

        • syaznifaiq

You and DarthNemesis are definitely fanboys, yeah, that’s no doubt about it.. there no need to bash other console but you two seem like idiots to me .. sorry to said

          • Dean Winchester

I love your commenting style good sir.

“how dare you “bash” a piece of plastic. Its quite alright for me to bash people like you and Darth though”!

How is my statement bashing another console?

I OWN a Wii-U and a NeoGeoX Gold. Both came out in late 2012.
I enjoy both systems immensely but NEITHER of them are next gen in any way other than the date in which they hit the market and in regards to the specific company that made them.
For the industry and game devs…….not next gen.

Sorry if that is painful to hear.

            • Budgiecat

why did you buy that crap

              • Dean Winchester

                the NeoGeoX Gold?
                B/C Im a real gamer.
                You should try it sometime.
You have to go back to a time before internet E-tardation and remember what playing games was like before you were dead on the inside.

    • Kou

Unless it’s relatively cheap AND powerful, I won’t be getting it. No hype for me. Rumored specs for next XBOX and PS4 are weaker than my 400 dollar PC (That I havnt upgraded in 2 years), so PC really is looking like the true “next-gen” for me, unless these rumors are totally wrong. But even then, if the next-gen consoles ARE stronger than my PC…I expect them to be launching at 400-600 dollars which wont be worth it for nearly anyone, especially in this economy.

      • AdamBoy64

And the last I heard about anti-used games is that Sony had put out patents for it.

If that ends up happening, it’ll make the PS4 a nice console to skip.

        • Dean Winchester

Microsoft had those rumors in place months prior.
          Nice selective memory.

For all you kids crying about anti used policies I’m willing to bet you buy or have bought games digitally on Ps3, XBLA, WiiVC and Steam which makes you all hypocrites.

Quick, I heard there is a good trade in offer for iPhone and android apps you dont play anymore…..said no article ever.

          • AdamBoy64

Not selective memory – nothing of the sort.
It was a patent applied for last December.
(Article from NeoGAF with a link to the patent –

I do buy the odd digital game – mainly virtual console titles (that at least gives the developer some money), but buying a digital game doesn’t make anyone a hypocrite.

            • Raiyu

I don’t know why you guys are arguing over a patent somebody filed. If you learned anything from the industry, just because something is patented doesn’t mean it’ll be used.

Also, how does it not make you a hypocrite when you pretty much agree to an anti-used policy? Or do you know of some method I can trade in my VC or PSN games?

              • AdamBoy64

Yes, I understand that patent might not be used. Quite a few of Sony’s patents haven’t been in the past. (Well, at least not yet).

I’ll need to get you to explain to me how buying digital games is the same as buying used games. Not wanting to be snappy, would just like the connection between the two explained.

                • Raiyu

If you knew that then I don’t understand why you’d make an argument about Sony putting a patent out for it knowing full well it might not even be used.

Your first comment: “I do buy the odd digital game – mainly virtual console titles (that at least gives the developer some money), but buying a digital game doesn’t make anyone a hypocrite.” You cannot trade in your digital game for another game, or let anyone borrow it. No matter how you spin it, buying digital means you subject yourself to an anti-used policy. Yet you’re implying you’d skip the PS4 if you can’t buy used games, which makes you a hypocrite cause you’re already supporting the policy.

                  • AdamBoy64

Ah, I can see what you’re saying.

But If I buy a game that can’t be reused – that doesn’t mean I’m against all games that can.

And if I don’t exercise that freedom to be able to resell a game (eg. purchased online) – that doesn’t mean I’m against being able to do that ever. Or against other people doing the same.

                    • Raiyu

I never said you were against all games that can. And you do have the right to exercise that freedom.

But the fact still remains: you support the policy.

                    • AdamBoy64

Because I get a game online – I don’t want people to be able to buy used games?

Not sure how I’m supporting anti-used disc-locking it if I’ve said I won’t get a console that has the feature.

Disc-locking takes away the freedom to be able to resell. At the moment, I can choose whether I have that freedom or not. I’m in favour of keeping that freedom for the public – regardless of how often I do or not exercise it.

                    • Raiyu

You obviously don’t get what I’m saying. I’m just going to leave my argument at that, I’m not even going to bother anymore.

                    • DrForbidden

Uhh, actually, I think that you’re also not getting what AdamBoy64 is saying. Not-supporting anti-used games initiative and buying some games which are not used-friendly are not mutually exclusive. Not all digital games have physical versions to support in the first place. Second, and more importantly, is whether the anti-used game initiative is ‘active’ or ‘passive/secondary’. A new system implemented for the express purpose of preventing used game sales is ‘active’, while some download games do not have physical releases due to various factors, and not being used-game-friendly is merely a byproduct of the release method. There are other points of consideration, but that;s pretty much the gist of what I’m trying to say. Just because someone buys some digital games in some cases does not necessarily mean they support an anti-used-game initiative. That is generalisation/simplification and dangerously close to a strawman argument, IMO.

                    • LordKaiser

                      It’s a straw man argument.

                    • Dean Winchester

“straw man” the most overly used term on the web since “troll” and “fanboy”.

It really just means that your brain cant connect the dots but you sought attention by dropping an internet buzzword or phrase into the mix.
This applies to you and Dr. Forbidden but at least the good Dr. tried to flesh out his argument against. Sadly his argument against is more “straw man” than my argument for.

                    • Raiyu

Ah, now this I can understand if this is what he was getting at.

But like I said, not gonna bother arguing or debating anymore. But you make some valid points.

                    • Dean Winchester

my point of calling out the hypocrisy wasnt to say that buying a digital game means you are a steadfast advocate for anti used game policies. My point was that if you already knowingly buy games that employ the use of anti used measures then it is VERY hypocritical to try and get the townsfolk to gather their pitchforks and torches by soap boxing you “fight for the peoples freedom”.
If you buy digital media you clearly are accepting of anti used policies.
To argue otherwise is “straw man”.

                    • DrForbidden

The strawman argument relies on oversimplifying and overgeneralisation. My point is simply that resigning oneself to the fact that digital games are anti-used-games does not necessarily mean that one supports or accepts anti-used-games policy across the board in all instances. That’s like saying that anyone who pays taxes to the US government supports the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are many who don’t, but still want their taxes to support other things and amenities not related to war. War expenses are a necessary evil they cannot avoid.

Now, if someone were to knowingly and intentionally buy digital copies all the time when physical releases were just as easily available, then I’d say, yes, he would be a hypocrite (or maybe just an idiot) to complain about anti-used-games initiatives…

            • Dean Winchester

Buying digital but screaming at the roof tops that if Sony implements an anti used policy you will skip next gen absolutely makes you a hypocrite.
You admit to buying digital. Buying digital does NOT mean you are against used games. It DOES mean you are perfectly accepting of purchasing games that already implement an anti used policy.

You cant wear leather shoes and say you are a vegetarian b/c you are against cruelty to animals raised for food.
Do you eat your shoes? Nope. But that leather got there from the same source that the burger on your plate did.

To dismiss that as “straw man” is to say you really dont have an intelligent rebuttal.

              • AdamBoy64

No. I don’t think I need to rewrite anything I’ve posted previous, but buying digital games and supporting no-one being able to purchase used games are two different things.

Sony is a well known patent hog, they buy dozens upon dozens a year and do not use any of them.Beside MS had been throwing the idea around before the 360.

          • AdamBoy64

Yes. I remember reading first that MS were interested in the technology. Could end up being used by both Sony and Microsoft. I hope not.

      • Can’t argue much with you on that…. The only things a new console will sell well are an affordable price tag, a massive amount of third party games and quality games from first party… Despite being less powerful, the PS2 managed to outsold the Gamecube…

        • LordKaiser

Backward compatibility with PS1 games helped the PS2 as well. Once the PS2 launched there was not a reason to keep the PS1.

          • ShinAsura

The PS4 needs to have needs to Gakai ready at launch with a moderate amount of titles ready to go. I don’t think they can afford to make Gakai a mute point, people keep their old systems because they have games on it they still want to play, but if that’s overridden by Gakai that’s a win for Sony

          • Dean Winchester

Lets not forget the PS2 was the most affordable DVD player on the market at the time.
Stand alone players cost upwards of $500+ before the PS2 launched and DVD movies averaged $25 to $40 each.
            Sony made DVD mainstream.
They have done the same with PS3 and bluray albiet at a slower adoption rate.
Sony innovates and drives multiple industries forward. This is fact.

      • Dean Winchester

Can you play the next Sony Santa Monica game on that $400 outdated PC?
How about Naughty Dog, Quantic Dream?
        No you say?

Hmmm. Alright. Have fun with the next generic Sim game pr RTS comin your way.

        PC Master Race Unite!

  • DesmaX

Fair enough. This generation was really long.

    • ShinAsura

Yeah it was and it’s slowing down gaming development

      • MrRobbyM

But at the same time, it set a really high standard for games and development costs are really expensive now.

        • DesmaX

Well, It isn’t going to raise that much actually.

I don’t really see something that can really raise development costs (Like Normal Mapping). Maybe the new consoles should run graphics like that Watch Dogs video

  • syaznifaiq

Really excited but i really hope Sony learn their lesson from PS3 … An inauspicious start, high priced, lack of quality launch games, exclusive games suddenly became multiplatform .e.g. FF, DMC, Tekken . Sony also continued to lose money on each PS3 sold through 2010 although the redesigned “slim” PS3 has cut these losses since then

    • DarthNemesis

First the cell processor and blu ray was new tech which meant the console would be expensive and the hdd and wifi was built in.
Second no one ever launches a console with quality games (see the 360 and Wii U) and quality is subjective anyway.
Third Sony has no control over third party games and I dont know why people do not understand that?
Fourth the PS3 has been turning a profit since 2010 actually and the PS3 is the best console so they did right what matters most.

      • Dean Winchester

        People love to hate Sony.
The haters cling to the high launch price like a newborn to their mothers lactating teet.

If they cant let it go then by all means it should be okay to bring up the biggest joke in all gaming history every chance we get:
        RROD. Lest we not forget.

        • syaznifaiq

its mean i care about Sony i dont want Sony to experience the same thing .. man, some people like u really need special attention .. if i hate sony , why should i came here muppet

      • Kameo wasn’t a quality game?

      • syaznifaiq

its mean i care about Sony ..i also owns PS3 super slim … cant u tell,? why butthurt?

      • DrForbidden

I agree with your points, except the part about Sony not having control over third party games. Sony can and has rejected games, and they can also push developers to make games they want or to localise games by offering incentives. Granted, they’re not the boss of non-Sony-affiliated developers, but I don’t think it accurate to project them as totally powerless when it comes to selecting which games end up on their consoles.

  • Bloodios

E3 2013 is completely packed with expectation (for various matters.)

  • xMCXx

A good launch line-up would be good for a change.

    • rockman29

Resistance: Fall of Man may have been one of the best launch titles on any Playstation platforms. One of my favourites to this day.

      • ShinAsura

        I didn’t care for it

    • ShinAsura

Uncharted 4, God of War 4, Killzone 4 with a special edition for Europe, LittleBigPlanet next gen, Infamous 3 , and have PS1 to PS3 backwards compatibility ready to go via Gakai at launch.

They need to hit the industry like a megaton bomb and keep the aftershock going

      • So just a bunch of sequels then? Great.

        • ShinAsura

New IP’s are expensive and risky for a launch, better for when the system is established

Last of Us and Two Souls are releasing towards the end of the cycle

I do think Kojima will want to release something with the Fox Engine too but we’ll see

          • Raiyu

A new IP for launch may work if the game is cross-gen, like if it was on PS3, 360, PS4, 720.

I can see something like Watch_Dogs being cross gen.

        • I wouldn’t worry about that. Historically the most new franchises appear at the the beginning and end of a console cycle. It’s the middle where sequels are everywhere.

        • Dean Winchester

B/C sequels dont sell and generate the funds needed to facilitate new IP development?
Also sequels have never been good.
I can see why you hate them.

  • EspadaKiller

  • I dont understand why everyone compares ps3/4 with the PC? PS is all about the great exclusives like inFAMOUS, Uncharted, ALL STARS, Killzone etc. And look at the ps3s specs…CRAP. But then look at games like killzone and Uncharted. They look AMAZING. So if the ps4 does have specs that aint that good, the games will look still look amazing though, even if they look just slightly better, Ill be happy with it

    • DesmaX

Well, consoles only has to handle the game itself (And maybe the Dashboard, but that pauses the game). PC’s has to handle any other program running (Even Windows), so no wonder it needs better specs

    • ShinAsura

Can’t really compare, consoles will never stand up to PCs until the day they become modular but i don’t see that ever happening

      • Budgiecat

PC never impressed me anyway. Doesnt have the games I want

  • If it doesnt support backwarrds compatability and has that light of death shit again, then I’d rather buy a 3ds and pokemon. Seriously! I’d had it with those issues.

    • MosquitoLemon

Same here, I’m slowly regretting getting a PS3 and wishing I’d gone for a 3DS. Lots of great software, and a lot of stuff being localized. If only it weren’t for the dang region lock.

    • MrRobbyM

Yeah, I will never get why people buy consoles right away. I waited it out until the YLOD was largely fixed with the 80 GB and still regret not waiting for the slim. But whatever.

If you have a choice, then handhelds are a much safer bet. Not as risky unless you’re careless with your belongings.

  • rockman29

    My body is ready.

  • W/E that is far off anyways and watching E3 live is like taking a slow walk on glass with a massive brick on your back.

  • ShinAsura

Well I bought a 60 gig phatty PS3 from Japan for $1000 when it launched, lets see what I’m going to do this time

    • MrRobbyM

      Not something stupid, hopefully.

      • ShinAsura

It’s not stupid if you have money

        • MrRobbyM

Of course not. But to buy a launch system that’s bound to have problems(tada, it did) for 1k doesn’t seem like the best decision. Use your money how you like, no problem with that. But it could also be more wisely spent.

I got my 80 GB for 400 and I still regret not waiting.

          • ShinAsura

I didn’t have the issues with my 60GIG that people were having in the US

  • MrRobbyM

Woah woah. Hold up there buddy. I’m still catching up with last gen games.

But I must say, I really like that design. Could use a few tweaks, but looks pretty sleek but not overly modern.

    • ShinAsura

Sorry but the system has been out long enough plus you don’t need to buy it right away

      • MrRobbyM

I think it’s still too early. I’d say wait at least another year for an announcement then release it the following year.

  • LordKaiser

I will stay on the current gen. For me it’s very disappointing. I only have a few PS3 games compared to my PS2 collection.

    • MrRobbyM

Same here. I only have about 13 games max for my PS3 as where my ps2 has about 30. My wii has even fewer.

  • ShinAsura

The PS3 is too slow, hate when it freezes up when I’m chatting with my friends and playing games.

Better have an awesome browser and the UI needs to be kickass

    • DesmaX

Hope it let’s me change the music in any game.

And take screenshots (Like the Vita. And some PS3 games)

      • Raiyu

Instead of screenshots, I hope it allows us to record gameplay. That’d be sweet.

        • DesmaX

          That would be sick.

But that would cost way too much of the Hardware, it woudn’t be viable

          • Raiyu

Well thinking about it, maybe developers can put that feature in? I think Black Ops II does that, I may be wrong though. Or maybe its just the PC version.

            • DesmaX

Well, but that is a function of the game, not something the console does

              • Raiyu

                True that.

Its still something I can hope that Sony could enable as a feature.

                • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

it would jump the ps4 up a good 50$+

        • ShinAsura

and upload to Youtube or share to your Facebook accounts, not sure how popular Twitter is

      • Skerj

I want it, I just hope it’s ubiquitous. Sony’s problem is allowing us to have all of those features but leaving it up to the developers to implement, and then we get fragmentation when they don’t. That’s actually the one thing I can give to MS for doing.

Some games on Vita disable party chat, custom soundtracks, and screenshots and that’s pretty unfortunate. Don’t even get me started on what features the PS3 is capable of but are hardly ever used.

I’d actually like to see system level streaming to YouTube or Nico, among the other features that folks want. Hell the Vita Nico app actually supports game streaming but it’s implemented on a game by game basis, I don’t even know any that use it yet.

      • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

the music is up to devs.

    • Yeah its old things like HOME can be super fast on the next console if it has at least a dual core or a Quad Core which I doubt and does not really need.. but would be cool.. but would make SONY lose to much money. SONY from the looks of it will release a console that will make profit day one and wont be a huge leap in graphics but it will be super fast and be able to do VR, 3D and AR with no problems.

  • I’m excited about the next generation of gaming. I think the hardware improvements will allow developers to get more out of new engines. I’m also happy to see that JP studios seem to be ready for the next generation of consoles this time.

I’m interested to see what Sony plans to do with Gaikai. I feel like that purchase will play a big role in the next PlayStation.

With all of that said, I’m still worried about development costs getting even higher, considering they are already too expensive right now. This has already resulted in less innovative ideas being green-lighted, along with classic franchises being set aside.

Everything being about huge profits returns is kinda killing the middle of the pack games. The games that have a cult following, some of them have been around for years. The problem lies in what is considered a success, the bar is set far too high. If this can’t be fixed, I worry that some of those franchises will be put to sleep indefinitely. It’s especially sad considering these games are typically very good.

Just because you make a good fun game, that doesn’t mean much these days. It used to mean everything, that was kinda what making video games was all about. I miss those days…

    • MrRobbyM

I wish new consoles meant hardware improvements, not new standards for games.

I don’t know. If I talk about it too much I’ll just get sad :c

      • Yeah, it really can get you down in the dumps. =(

    • LordKaiser

I agree with you as the niche market is treated with disregard. I doubt that Sony will publish another RPG ever again. Among the series that went sleeping, many are RPGs or SHMUPs etc.

      Wild Arms
Star Ocean (Unless it have a schedule of only 1 release per generation)
      Gargoyle Quest
Shadow Hearts (If Marvelous AQL holds the IP or else the series is dead)
      Gradius (Could be secretly dead)

Other series where not so lucky and died.

Development is very costly as higher graphics and polygon count means more detailed artwork who takes more time and more time = more expense.

Also the bad economy means that there’s less employees so games get delayed progress. The bad economy lowers the quality of everything.

      • I really miss some of those. =/

    • KurisuMakise

Middle of the Road will re-invent itself as Digital and Portable, fret not my friend. If there is safe profit to be made in this industry, once the basic costs are mitigated it SHALL RETURN! Believe.

  • ShinAsura

$399 is the magic number, any higher and it’ll be dejavu

  • PrinceHeir

    get hype!!!

  • Dc1

Almost screamed a manly scream…. and then I realized it was a concept pic.
Dang! I’m so looking forward to the PS4 …. while enjoying my PS3.

  • Raiyu

I’m so tired of this gen already. Bring on the new consoles

  • I’m very excited for the PS4. I can’t wait to see the E3 conference, hopefully we’ll get Mr Kaz Hirai to talk about his favorite game ever Ridgeeeeeeeee Racer and announce the price!!! I won’t buy the console at launch though because I’m cheapass, I only bought PS3 two years ago.

PS3 is the console that I finished most game on it. I only finished 33 games on PS1 and 34 games on PS2 but I have finished 58 games on PS3 alone and it’s only 2 years since I bought it. This generation is the best generation for me because there are a great selection of game. Last gen I don’t even bother to play shooter but this gen I played them and loved them like Borderlands, Spec Ops The Line, Binary Domain, etc. I would say the JRPG is lacking but there are still quality JRPG it’s just that you only get great JRPG once in a quite while.

Even with the next gen consoles coming I still have a lots of games I’m looking forward like Beyond Two Souls, DmC, Ni no Kuni, Bioshock Infinite, Castlevania LOS2, Dead Space 3, Dragon’s Crown, Lightning Returns, FFXIV, GOW Ascension, GTAV, Hyperdimension Neptunia V, Metal Gear Rising, One Piece Pirate Warriors 2, Remember Me, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, The Last of Us, Toki to Towa, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Tomb Raider, Until Dawn, Rain, Deadly Premonition, Tales of Xillia, Puppeteer, Deadpool, Dark Souls 2, Mugen Souls Z, The WItch and Hundred Knights, Fuse, Yakuza 5 (Hopefully localized this year) and I’m excluding games like Watch Dogs because I think it will be cross gen games and if that’s the case I’ll get it on PS4. Maybe we’ll even get Persona 5, The Last Guardian and FF Versus.

All of those games were PS3 alone. I can’t wait to see PS4’s first party games and I hope Agni’s Philoshopy become FFXV because I see Yoshihisa Hashimoto talking about it a lot on facebook, it’s like his baby.

  • If next gen is worst than this gen… i will skip it. The only thing i want to try is the VR and AR which my pc can handle.

  • 599 US DOLLARS lol

    • ShinAsura

They can’t afford that price mark again even if the hardware demands it, they need to launch at $399

  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII meet Playstation 4. You were announced back in the birth of PS 3…..

    • ShinAsura

It’ll still launch on PS3 but the PS4 will be on the market

    • At this point they might as well.

  • I hope it ends up being compatible with Oculus Rift, that would be fantastic.

  • ShinAsura

Well we’ll see in about a year if Sony learned their lesson from marketing. It’s improved over the years, however, they really need to be aggressive.

Even if the hardware blows away the competition people don’t see that when they’re watching a TV commercial or at a sponsored function

  • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

That concept looks sexy. Sony could borrow some design ideas from that guy. As I bought my PS3 in December 2k9 I’m in no rush to purchase their next machine. There’s still lots of games on my back-log and I imagine PS3 will receive a further stream of games from Japan. By the time I decide to get one there will be lots of games, a better machine (FW updates improved PS3/Vita significantly) and more affordable. Probably gonna import one of those sexy LE systems from Japan as I did with my white Lightning FFXIII LE PS3.

Exciting times are at hand, the anticipation is palpable.

  • paperclichepixel

This will be a monumental announcement. I hope Sony followed the accessibility program process the Vita has, for faster higher quality games.

They need to go back to the “U R NOT RED E.” days.

If FFV XIII is delayed for the PS4, then kudos, cause that will secure a upfront purchase, and better showcase the hardware/engine.

  • I think they’ve learned their lesson last time by coming late to the party and letting Microsoft take a head start. In addition, they better have a good selection of games to back that announcement up, nobody just wants to stare at a pretty box.

  • new_tradition

This probably isn’t a good thing to admit, but I can’t remember really getting psyched for a gaming console or handheld since the PSP.

I really care more about the games and maybe services. I mean, as a consumer, when I hear about the “PS4”, all I’m really thinking about are the costs before potential innovation.

I’m not a savvy gaming tech person, so all the rumoured specs go over my head. Adding to that, for me personally, I’ve never really been interested in launch titles enough to get them right away, so I’m gonna need serious convincing to upgrade from my PS3.

  • Ragiacrus

better start saving ;D , what would make this announcement amazing is if it was accompanied by a surprise title announcement as well

  • ShinAsura

Article at Gamesindustri suggests a PC based architecture and $350-400 price point.

I’m wondering if any dev has truly unlocked the power of the cell by now, if not using something similar in the PS4 won’t be worth it

  • I see PS4 being a top contending seller like it’s big brother the PS2.
I hear PS4 will be easy to Dev for this time around, and since it’ll have a disc drive that’ll be good as I still prefer to have my games on Physical Discs, and not be stuck with Digital. It needs to have all SEN stuff from teh PS Store, and PSN ID’s transferable to the PS4. I wouldn’t want to lose all my PSN games. Knowing SONY they’ll transfer it all over and keep it. Our Purchases need to mean something, and they mostly will.

  • speaking of Transferring stuff from PSN to PS4. Vote for it to be Transferred to PS4.

  • PS4 will be strong. Like PS2 was

  • For SONY to Rule this years E3 like they practically did in a way.
They need to show from the Gate “GAMES”.
    Final Fantasy Versus XIII
    The Last Guardian
and whatever else SONY has up their sleeves for E3.

  • bad concept

  • Sony! Add some more USB ports to the back!!! For God’s sake, 2 USB ports in the front is a joke!
