The first of many third-party Nintendo collaborations to come.

Nintendo announced an unexpected title for Wii U during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation: a collaboration game between Nintendo and Atlus called Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

And this is just the first of many. According to Nintendo, the company “has begun many collaborations with outside development partners to bring the best franchises and experiences to Wii U.”

Details on Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem are slim, other than that it features characters from both franchises. Watch a teaser trailer below.

Wow this is interesting. I’m guessing this might be an exclusive. Sony and MS need to bring their “A” game soon, or their going to be behind.

*edit* I take it back it is an exclusive. Never played any of the Fire Emblem titles so I didn’t know Nin owns them.

    • Dede Ogbe

i was just thinking. This whole lineup already blows the Vita line up out of the water

      • Gigus

Oh don’t remind me about the vita :/. I just bought mine and I love it but I’ve already finished 4 of the games I wanted. Sony needs to do something. Devs need to get that notion out of their heads that the vita is powerful and they have to develop console like games on a handheld. Its still a handheld, so they don’t have to make console like games on it. They just have to make great games on it.

        • Dede Ogbe

Exactly aleast Atlus and NIS are supporting it. But right now i feel that Sony hasn’t really put in the effort, especially with the marketing. Vita owners are evn supposed to have our own version of Nintendo direct (PlayStation Vita Game Heaven) where the hell did that go? Its ridiculous! They just keep feeding us the same line ‘Don’t worry we’ve got a bunch of games in the pipeline’ Where are they?!!

          • Bloodios

            Stuck in that pipeline.

            • DrForbidden

Japanese Vita games still with no English localisation announcements:

              1). Malicious: Rebirth
              2). Tales of Hearts R
              3). Oboro Muramasa
              4). Tales of Innocence R
              5). God Eater 2
              6). Demon Gaze

There are more, like Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus and Fate/Stay Night: Realta Nua that I didn’t list because they are highly unlikely to make it out of Japan.

Yeah, you’re not even trying, are you, Sony?

              • MosquitoLemon

I’d settle for a PSP-like situation where at the very least, Japan gets a good library. I mean, as long as it’s region-free, we won’t be barred from playing those games forever.

        • Link

Developers just dont see the Vita as profitable and most have moved development to the 3DS. The biggest hint at that is that the 3DS version of RE:R got ported to every other console and PC except for the Vita.

    • Might be an exclusive? Nintendo owns Fire Emblem. =P

      • Gigus

Never played any of the Fire Emblem games. So I didn’t know XD.

  • When I saw Atlus logo I thought they’re going to announce Persona 5 exclusive for WiiU, lol.

This is pretty mindblowing. I honestly don’t know how it’ll play.

    • Haku_Luvs_You

I thought the same exact thing lol

  • Aiddon

hoo-boy, fanfiction writers are going to LOSE THEIR MINDS

  • Niyari

nooooooooooo. i was looking forward to NOT having to buy a Wii U.

    • I dunno, there’s looking to be a heck of a lot of reasons to buy one.

    • MrKappa

Nintendo is really putting everything they have into making the Wii U worth buying from snagging Bayonetta to even do a cross over this awesome. You might just have to cave.

    • AnimusVox

Haha my thoughts exactly. I won’t be getting one until some of these games have an actual localized release date though.

      • All games announced today are confirmed for US and Europe, just so ya know! They were announced through the US and EU Nintendo Directs as well as the Japan one.

        • AnimusVox

Oh awesome, I didn’t get to watch the feed so I didn’t know. So far there are 2 out of 5 games required for me to buy a new system

    • Barrit

Ugh, same here, especially with rumors about the next Playstation and Xbox already circulating.

  • YES!

  • YangTerlupakan

get ready to see PERSONA 5 in Wii U

    • DarthBrian

      • YangTerlupakan

come on, get some fact :
        – Sales from Soul hacker is more than Persona 2 : IS
        – SMT 4 now on 3DS
        – atlus make a deal with nintendo

so with this is possible atlus move every Megamten series to Nintendo console

        • Bloodios

There is always a chance for it to be a multiplatform project. Why leave out the PS3 and Xbox 360 and settle with so much less? It’s obvious that there is also a huge fan base lies within the PlayStation community. To suddenly leaving them out of the picture and assume that everyone had already owned or going to buy a Wii U just for Persona 5 is a ridiculous move that only those who are not holding the responsibility of managing Atlus can think of risking.

          • MosquitoLemon

SE doesn’t seem to have taken a hit by making the past two DQ games Nintendo exclusive.

            • YangTerlupakan

i think Dragon Quest is different situation
IMO every time new DG in develompent, is only released in the MOST BIGGEST SALES CONSOLE IN EVERY GENERATION |
just look the history of DG 1-10 and u will see that
for DG 10 in Wii U is just SE tactics IMO to avoid lost sales from Wii & lack support online

              • Link

Actually the DQ situation its more probably that Nintendo has secured a contract for the series. While its true DQ has gone to the best selling console each gen Nintendo has done more than other companies to support the series even going as far to handle all localization aspects and marketing. So far its worked out for both parties.

                • YangTerlupakan

i want to believe that but i also question why sony not going the same thing with MONSTER HUNTER
                  i ignored u theory because DG 7&8 released only in ps1 & ps2
even now DG 7 is come to 3DS
maybe because 64 & GC is poor sales

                  • Link

The contract is more likely recent after the fact. Its not my own theory theres been alot of talk about it on popular sites like NeoGaf which houses alot of game developers who talk to the community so its entirely possible. Sony and Monster Hunter are practically dead now. Sony and Capcom’s spat over localization of MHP3rdHD(which Sony ended up canceling) really killed any future support of MH for Sony consoles. Nintendo is actually taking the same approach with MH that they are doing for DQ w/ the support/marketing/localization/etc. which is probably why its getting all the MH games and they’re all getting localized.

                    • YangTerlupakan

wow maybe i will take my time to searching in neogaf
shame sony never know only MH can save vita

  • I hope this also gets a 3DS version.

  • Bec66

As long as this includes characters from the othe SMT series i’m hooked…Oh who am I kiding i’m already hooked!

  • shogunknight

Nintendo is going insane!! SMT X Fire Emblem. But this isnt like them, showing almost all their main franchises at a go. This E3 is going to be a blast from all companies

  • paperclichepixel

Very odd cross, but this is the best news on this today.

  • BushyEyebrows

Well this came straight out of nowhere. Not that I mind. The Wii U is certainly looking a lot more attractive now.

  • Sweet! I didn’t expect this, but I’m very intrigued by it. I wonder how the game will play?

  • Prodigy-X

Wow this is awesome. Keep the hardcore games coming Nintendo.

  • I’ve yet to play a crossover that doesn’t feel phoned-in besides Smash Bros. Since Nintendo’s involved I’m hoping this turns out just as good

  • new_tradition

Seems like its the year for cross-over games, haha

  • well dis came da hell outta nowhere…..but zog does it sound awesome!

  • Eclipse

Wow… This is a very unexpected crossover. It seems I may just have to cave in and buy a Wii U. Oh, and I hope that Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV will be in this!

  • MosquitoLemon

This is one of those situations where I wish I knew something about Fire Emblem, because dang, SMT X anything is gonna be awesome! And yeah, I’ve played a few Fire Emblem games and I remember one of the characters was in the GC Smash Brothers game, but I never really got into the series.

  • PrinceHeir

    weird collaboration

but that’s why it’s freaking amazing!!!!!!

also it has SMT4 characters O__O

    mind blowing!!
