I really want to get this game but will have to wait until sometime in February when my return comes in unless I can squeeze the monies from my next check.

  • Awesome score. Hope this game sold a ton and we’ll get more awesome JRPG like this. Can’t wait for my copy to arrive!

  • DesmaX

    Already preordered

  • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

I contemplated buying the much cheaper complete edition in Japan (includes all patches and DLC) but voting with my wallet will show NamBan and L5 that I appreciate their effort and stellar localization. I would kinda feel like a cheap-ass, especially as Japanese VAs are included in this release. it is then.

Glad to see critics praising the game. it never got the recognition it deserved in Japan, hopefully it does in EU/NA.

    • MrKappa

Sounds like you didn’t get the memo but the US/EU release will have all the latest patches and all the DLC Japan already got in the game already. So we are getting the complete edition.

      • PrinceHeir

        fuck yes!!!

Dual Audio, all DLC’s, Wizard Edition!!!!

already pre order mine 6-8 months ago :D

where the hell is it Namco!!!!!

      • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

Ah, sorry, I know that already. Japanese way of thinking affecting my English posts, ( ̄▽ ̄), that can only mean a good thing. You see, in Japanese known facts can be omitted, so I did it in English as well.

So, yea, I know that the western release is fully patched, the note was rather meant to explain what the “All in One Edition” is, sorry for not being precise enough with my English.

I’m still confused about the “exclusive (pre-order)” and retailer-exclusive DLC monsters though. I guess they are early unlocks whereas in the Wizard’s Edition’s case the models have merely a golden skin.

  • Azure

    Pure RPG.

  • Potionzmaster

Tears of joy are shed :’D

  • bebestorm117

    Finally a jrpg scoring 9’s!

  • DarthBrian

    My body is ready. <3

  • syaznifaiq

Where’s GameTrailer? . not surprise actually not to see them, maybe they were to embarrassing to show their score and hide in the closet after bashing Tales Of Graces F and give such a low 6.7 .u can check on youtube here the link .

  • kiri25

Lesson here never trust GameInformer when it comes to JRPG’s.
They’ve always sucked at reviewing JRPG’s unless its a popular franchise then they’ll give a 9 or 10.

    • Bec66

Who cares the people at gameinformer are just a bunch of CoD suckers (Not that I have anything against people who like that but some of their fans just irritate me) they barely even know how to review games. I remember they gave sonic generations a low score because it REMINDED them of crappy sonic games and gave final fantasy 13 a good score basically because it was final fantasy

      • syaznifaiq

yeah but sadly unlike us JRPG fans, others people will just buy a game based on the score

        • Bec66

I know, but hey 7 is still a good and it’s only gameinformer saying that, everywere else it’s getting wonderful reviews plus not everyone likes and/or reads gameinformer

          • Haku_Luvs_You

7 isn’t good by gameinformer standards. They gave other M a 6.5 and consider it to be one of the worst games ever made on the Wii, and claim it ruined the whole series. Hell they gave the new Dead or Alive a 6 and openly said they absolutely hate the game.

            • Bec66

Well the people who are actually interested in buying the game will probably use other sites for reference (I hope) rather than just the opinion of one crappy little game mag.

  • kiri25

Lesson here never trust GameInformer when it comes to JRPG’s.
They’ve always sucked at reviewing JRPG’s and unless it’s a popular franchise expect 7 or below from GI.

    • Review is just opinions from guys that think that know more than you

      • That is what I always say.

      • HarryHodd

        These “opinions” affect sales.

  • Aldridge517

Shame on you game informer. How dare you be an outlier

  • Fantasytales

Didn’t need to see this to convince me to buy. I had this preorder since I first heard it was coming out. Glad to see it got good scores all around.

  • Prodigy-X

This is going to be a classic.

  • It seems like Game Informer has always been rather strict with JRPG review scores, even though they tend to give out scores in the 7’s or high 8’s on occasion… That doesn’t stop them from putting some of those games in their top 10 games of the year lists.

All of that is sorta confusing if you ask me. I suppose they feel the scores don’t really matter? I hate to say it, but In this era of gaming, the scores mean more than the actual review. It’s the sad truth…

I read over some of the reviews. I’ve already bought it, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the reviews so far.

    • 浪黒雷 (ro-kurorai)

Nah, it’s much simpler: NnK is a PS3 exclusive. :P

      • Fair enough. =P

    • Dean Winchester

I asked Sal in the DmC reviews round up thread to do one for NiNo Kuni.
I also mentioned GameInformers whiny ass trollish review.

Lo and Behold GI has the lowest review on the web by a large margin.

I got multiple thumbs down for calling the female GI reviewer a whiny troll.
To those thumbs down chumps……GO F Yourselves.

Now that I got that out of the way….Ni No Kuni will be the best JRPG this gen. Yes….over Vesperia, or Lost Oddyssee.

Heres hoping those thumbs down-syndrome sufferers see my message before it gets modded.

      • I hate to say that we don’t have any control when it comes to up and down votes. I’ve said it before, but I’m not a big fan of the down vote system.

I did read the GT review. It sounded like Kimberley had her hopes set a bit too high. It’s dangerous to set the bar so high, anytime you do that, the product itself will likely never reach the expectations you set for it.

It’s a lesson we all learn in life. Like any of life’s lessons, some of us take away different things from it.

I also got the feeling that she was frustrated with the difficulty of the game. I could tell from just watching the videos. The game is molded in that aspect like a Dragon Quest game. You have to really grind at times, and the game isn’t afraid to punish the player, just like in Dragon Quest.

Yes, those mechanics are very old school, but — I like to think fans appreciate those classic mechanics.

I had plenty of friends who were unable to get into Dragon Quest VIII. I brought this up because Level 5 was heavily involved in the game. The biggest complaint with Dragon Quest has always been the steep learning curve, and how unforgiving the games can be.

I think that is quite interesting to be honest. It’s something reviewers constantly debate about. Some think JRPGs need to abandon some of these gameplay mechanics, where others plead with developers to return to those roots.

You can kinda simplify this with the following statement. Some players enjoy grinding, others despise it. As you well know, classic JRPGs are typically very grind heavy.

I guess what I’m getting at here is, I think Ni no Kuni was just not the right mix for Kimberley. I would have liked to seen her get more personal with the review. Instead of slightly touching on why she didn’t like the game, go into more detail. We don’t have to agree with her, but if she just didn’t like the game, she should have just put all those feelings into the review.

If I had to guess, I think she probably had the bar set too high with this game. Once she realized it wasn’t even going to reach those expectations, it was hard for her to enjoy the game.

        • Dean Winchester

What I got from her review was “wahhhhh its to hard. Wahhhh random battles. Wahhhhh the story isnt dark enough”.

And here we are after the rest of the gaming industry chimes in and it looks like she who must not be named gave a 7 to Ni No Kuni in an attempt to stand out from the pack like a Fema-Jim Sterling. GI didnt even have the decency to post a second opinion like they do with every generic FPS that comes along.
Frankly I expect no less when it comes to JRPG reviews in this anti Japanese mindset the gaming media has taken this Gen so I am actually surprised that most of the scores are as positive as they have been.

I buy almost every JRPG as that is my favorite genre to collect so this could have scored 2’s across the board and I would still have my Wizards edition and standard edition bought and paid for.

  • xMCXx

Kinda weird that Famitsu “only” gave a 36/40.

  • Heath_Hindman

    PlayStation LifeStyle was 10/10, not 9/10. ^_^
When I’ve only ever given that score 1 time at PSLS, it sucks to see it misrepresented. :p

    • Sorry about that! It’s been fixed. ;D

  • FaithlessMr

This will be worth the wait for sure :D

  • HarryHodd

    GOTY for me

  • More scores have been added, including GT’s.

I’m going to push up this post tomorrow morning since the game’s releasing.

  • I get my copy later today. Come on UPS!

  • PrinceHeir

did anyone here purchased the Ni No Kuni Wizard’s Edition?

mine just got updated that the order was process.

i check my credit card account, and it got charged right away.

soo i can’t wait for this!!!!!!!

you should check your account to see if you got charged.

im one of the lucky people who got through with the system(despite Digital River being an ass to customers)

from what i gather in neogaf, it seems they don’t allow you to change your credit card or shipping address once you place your order.

so those who’s cards got expired last december 2012 or early on will be cancelled.

this fucked up alot of early supporters who ordered since June or July.

i ordered mine June 29, 2012, finally i was able to secure this.

same thing happened to The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy.

sorry for long post, i just wanted to spread the word.

hopefully Namco will learn a lesson from this, and use another company for billing or just do Amazon(which would have made things much MUCH easier)

i’m scared if they pulled a Limited Edition to the upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure PS3 game exclusive to clubnamco store.

    please don’t!!!!

    • DarthBrian

I’m in a state of flux on this apparently. I ordered it back in june but I was given a new credit card in sept and I changed my credit card on their store but it wouldn’t let me change it for that order so I sent them an email asking if there’s going to be a problem when they try to charge me with the old card and I haven’t heard back from them yet. Getting worried. >_<

      • PrinceHeir

        you should email them immediately!

        • DarthBrian

well, like I said, I sent them an email yesterday. I don’t want to anger them by flooding them with more emails. :p

I might call them in the afternoon if I haven’t heard anything by then though. Like 1pm in the afternoon or something.

EDIT: Well there’s an active hold on my account from namcobandaigames so I guess I’m fine. we’ll see. :p

          • PrinceHeir

just hope it goes through :)

    • Looks like I was one of the customers that got screwed over. I sent an email earlier today and haven’t gotten a response.

I suppose that is what I get for forgetting about getting a new card back in September.

      • PrinceHeir

        ohh no :(

will you still be able to get it??

        • I don’t think so. My email responses have been awful. I’ll admit, I’m a bit upset considering I was an early adopter. I placed my pre-order on June 29, 2012. I’m one of the people who helped get some of those bonus items added to the set.

          Proof –

Any normal store would set aside an order with an issue, and at least give the customer 24 hours to fix it.

I might try and see if I can get it from ebay, I’m sure someone will be selling it. I kinda want to forget about it right now… =/

          • PrinceHeir

why the hell didn’t i get a email like this O____O

yeah i remember both of us ordered this back in June 2012!!

you even said they charge as soon as the order is complete(they change it again for some reason)

aww man im really sorry :(

if i were you, i would probably lose my mind and boycott all of namco games from now on.

those fuckers at ebay will double the price for sure.

Namco should at least give you some compensation.

            • They charged for it back then, but enough people complained and they returned the money. It made sense back then, the game was not coming out until next year.

I’ve been looking on ebay, right now people are trying to sell it for crazy prices.

I’ve never had the best luck with Namco. This goes back to before they merged with Bandai. It’s very much been a love/hate relationship for me. I even refused to buy games from them for a few years, but that doesn’t really hurt anyone but me.

I had a feeling that things might go horribly wrong with this. The store supporting digital river should have been a red light for me.

I can’t blame all of the Namco-Bandai for this. I can only blame those in charge of the store. I doubt I’ll ever be placing another order on the store again.

I still plan on buying the game, I’d still like to get the Wizard’s edition. I’m just going to have to wait a bit longer, and work harder to get it.

I appreciate the support though. It helps to talk about it with friends. ^^

              • PrinceHeir

yeah, i always wonder why the hell did they even allowed that kind of practice.

                aww man those crazies!!!

wow, this is why i don’t like ordering to company stores.

                they hire the wrong people.

should have been amazon for sure.

only NIS is i know off that sells their games with excellent satisfaction.

Rightstuff as well, but they are more into anime’s.

yeah should learn from this and never do exclusives ever again.

give us a choice if you want our money!!!!

                hopefully you get yours resolved.

i mean you help me guys during my approaching the girl event XD

it’s the least i can do!

  • bebestorm117

Reviews are great lets just hope the game gets support from consumers…

  • zakou

Level-5 said, our goal with Ni No Kuni is to make a good childrens game :3

  • fireemblembeast

    Woah,even IGN… Oh, screw GI.
I’ll probably get this after I have beaten a few of my games and/or once the price drops. :)

  • Never go for GameInformer for anything…. Period…
