Developed by Crackdown 2 studio Ruffian Games.

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games was working on a high-definition remake of Sega’s 1991 classic Streets of Rage.

A video of the project was posted recently on Vimeo, as spotted by SegaDriven, leading former Ruffian Games designer Sean Noonan to confirm its legitimacy on Twitter.

I’m glad it was cancelled. It looks horrible.

    • You know nothing about SOR! you are prob just a kid butt out!

      • I grew up on the series and yeah… This is terribad, lol. It’s an awful representation of the franchise and yet another example as to why the transition from 2D to 3D is usually a terrible one.

It would do as a XBLA or PSN Games, but not as a full retail disc.

  • Looks terrible. I’ve been playing the Streets of Rage series since it was first released on the Sega Master System and Sega Genesis. This is not Streets of Rage. Where is Axel, Blaze, Zan, Adam Hunter? Hell I’ll even Take Adam’s Lamer brother Eddie.

That fan made Streets Of Rage was better than this.

It’s Ruffian so it was probably good that it got cancelled, besides it looks like a stiffer version of Beatdown. By the way, Beatdown kicked ass. Not as much ass as Urban Reign kicked though.

  • OMG NOOOO I used to skip kinder in the 90s to play this.. WHY!!!

  • Amphichiral

i’ll get it if its a download game

    Infinite sadness.

  • I think this looks fairly promising. It could have turned out to be really good, shame it got canned. (This was probably very early footage.)

Grin Studios were also working on a Street of Rage game and that was also cancelled.

Seems okay, but not totally impressive to be honest but hey, this is a prototype that can be further polished so we never know how this would look like in the end.

I do really kinda wish to see more arcade style beat-em-ups in this gen. Double Dragon Neon is the recent one I’ve seen (the game is great, by the way) but I would also like Japanese developers made these kind of games too.

So far, Anarchy Reigns by Platinum is the only thing that I can see coming from Japan.

yikes, i don’t mind being cancelled sorry :P

  • a good idea but a good beat em up doesn’t have to be 3d. 2d side scrolling, is the way is meant to be played. the upcoming dragon’s crown is an example of how a beat em up should be.

and for the video, it was good up till the zooming out of the arcade… then fhail all the way from there.
