PlayStation 3 releases skip retail, go digital-only.

Tecmo Koei has dated Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 and Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires in North America.

Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 will launch for PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network and Xbox 360 at retail on February 5, 2013. The game was previously dated for a retail release across both platforms in Europe on February 1. A Wii U version is also in development, but a release date was not announced.

Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires will be released for PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network on February 26, 2013. In Europe, the game will release at retail on February 22.

The reason for the digital-exclusive releases in North America, we understand, is in co-ordinance with Sony Computer Entertainment America’s localization policies, which require a game be dubbed in English for it to be released at retail. However, Sony has been known to lift these policies in the past with games such as Yakuza and Record of Agarest War.

The article doesn’t make it clear but are both games going to be digital only? If so that really blows.
I know WO3 was digital only so I’m thinking make DW7:E will be the digital one but FotNS2?

I rather have the game than nothing at all but this digital only business is something I don’t like. Sony’s policies are stupid and it is no wonder they are in last place when it comes to Nintendo and Microsoft.

From reading the article, it would appear that both will be DD only on the PS3 but FotNS2 will have a 360 retail version. Hopefully I’ve read that right?

They need to clear that up because if Europe gets the PS3 version on Blu-Ray then there’s reason for Americans to import.

Wow so every Koei game won’t be dubbed anymore? That’ll save alot of money. I thought it was just WO3 with its insane amount of chars but even DW7:E?? Interesting. Well i don’t mind digital that much. PS3s a 320 giger, not that worried about space. Plus having 3 discs just for 1 numbered DW game got silly since DW5…..

  • Ok Koei, ya need ta stop wit da Japanese only dub for 1 reason.

Beat ’em Ups, particularly da kind where ya gotta listen fer objectives, don’t work wit other languages otha then da player’s native tongue.

woz rather difficult as iz wit Warriors Orochi 3.

if it woz any otha genre it would be fine, but not dis one.

Just what exactly would YOUR native language be? (And how the hell did you spell “particularly” correctly and screw up the rest of these?)

  • This basically confirms that DW7E will have no English dub then…

It’s better to at least get it localized than none at all… We’re even lucky that the series is still localized despite Japan beating the West in terms of sales..

I’d rather have JP voice only than having english only so it’s good they did that, just dissapointed with no retail release.

we know SCEA is piece of shit trapped in 90’s with their damn rule that unfortunately often damaged localization of japanese game(no vn, no2d, no port for early psp life, no dub no retail etc etc), but for DW7E it should have chance for retail release since if we see most of JP voice only game  before are almost all are PS3/PSP exclusive safe for agarest zero (aksys probably get a pass befaus agarest 2 will be PS3 exclusive)

DW7E won’t have engilsh dub anyway, since is PSN download only i think koei start getting lazy or something. i  can understand why  WO3 don’t have engilsh dub becaust there too many chars and then there one piece priate warriors another no engilsh dub

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

    I’m getting both.
