Kojima Pro shares new details at Tokyo Game Show.

During a special stage event at the Tokyo Game Show today, Kojima Productions shared new details on Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Loading is always done in the background, so it’s basically an open world where loading screens do not exist.
  • The exception to this is when you travel by helicopter—there a loading screen will be inserted.
  • There will be many Grand Theft Auto-style open worlds, and these are connected by helicopter.
  • The video that has been released is of the prologue stage, so it’s a small open world. There are bigger ones.
  • The game has a concept of time, so it varies from morning to afternoon, and then to night in real time. [This could mean “game time,” I’m not sure.]
  • Before using the FOX Engine on other titles going forward, they want to create the standard with open worlds.

  • I hope that the stealth aspect will be very important in this game, since an open world MGS game sounds so awesome.

I figure it will be since they made a point of focusing that first demo on stealth. As I said to another, being open-world means it’ll likely be an evolution of what we got in MGS4 and PW, which was choice. Room for the traditional stealth approach as well as the freedom to just shoot everyone and everything.

Real time day and night cycles? Bought twice.

  • sounds great..this is a very good way to test their product, i sure won’t complain

A little off topic, but I always imagined Kojima Productions taking over the reigns of the Tenchu series.

    Ground Zerous will be dope.

  • oh my god yes!!!!

  • KingOptimusOrigins111

I square they better have stealth and don’t turn this into gta.

    • Solomon_Kano

Why would they turn it into GTA? The demo they showed off very clearly focused on stealth. If anything, being open-world, this will just be an evolution of what Kojima’s been pushing since MGS4: choice. You can be stealthy all you want, but you can also go in guns blazing if you choose to do so. That’s a lot more likely than randomly making the game like GTA (which wouldn’t really work given its setting or story anyway).

I understand that but it is the way kojima making it sound. We don’t know what the game fully looks like until he shows more of it which I can’t wait.

        • Kazziyan

He is talking about the scale of GTA in terms of comparison, I believe. Which is quite large, so worry not.

Amazing in every way you can think of, and we haven’t seen shit yet!

  • Souji Tendou

Sounds awesome but, I need to see it with my own eyes first.

“The game has a concept of time, so it varies from morning to afternoon, and then to night in real time. [This could mean “game time,” I’m not sure.]”

hopefully it’ll depend on your time settings on your PS3 :P

though i would love to have this on Wii U as well since it’s been a long time since a proper MGS game was place there(plus the hardware is strong as well)

i would also like to see how the Kojima will make use of the Gamepad :D

Leave it to Kojima to catch up the Japanese industry, this is excellent. Open World, Stealth, variance in time, ah…I love seeing series EVOLVE!
